  • Konami Denies Statements from GameSpot that say MGS 5: The Phantom Pain Multiplayer is Locked Behind a Paywall

Yesterday, GameSpot put out an article that said Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain's forward operating base (FOB) multiplayer, was locked behind a paywall. Gamespot said that in order to even play FOB, players had to first purchase an in-game currency, MB Coins, using real world money.

Today, Konami issued a statement to PC Gamer that flat out said that was a complete load of BS.
"Gamespot posted an article following the review that the PVP (FOB) mode in MGSV TPP will be restricted behind a micro-transaction paywall and that is simply not true. The FOB mode will be fully accessible at launch and the micro-transaction layer to that specific feature in the game primarily acts as an accelerator. We’ll have more details at launch, but we did try and clear these rumours up when they started circulating during E3. We even addressed this in our official E3 2015 demo when it went live during that show."

GameSpot's Peter Brown has decided to sneer in Konami's general direction and has again insisted that FOB can only be accessed by spending real world money.

I guess we'll see who is right and who is full of crap in about a week's time.

Gametrailers mentioned that they were unable to comment on the micro transactions and how they impact the FOB PVP mode.
There's a trend at Gamespot of making things sound worse than they are, there is evidence of an alternate currency you can pay for here, but we have no incination of how bad it is.

      Not quite.

You can make money by completing missions on single campaign mode. There are other ways to make money as well. https://t.co/PAUP9mzOu4

Improving on Greatness: A Review of the HexGaming Phantom Controller with Hall Effect Sticks
    by Shawn Zipay
The already stellar HexGaming Phantom now has a Hall Effect option.

In June 2024, I wrote a review for the Phantom, a then upcoming premium PlayStation 5 controller from HexGaming. My review of the HexGaming Phantom was almost universally glowing. I praised the controller for building off the already solid foundation of the PlayStation 5 DualSense while also adding new features that made a lot of sense. The features and quality improvements were things that made sense and, in my...

HexGaming Phantom PlayStation 5 Controller Review
    by Shawn Zipay
In a market full of premium controllers, the Phantom manages to come out on top.

The PlayStation 5 DualSense is arguably one of the best first-party controllers to ever exist. This base PS5 controller already features amazing haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, motion controls, a touch pad, and a tried-and-true design that fits comfortably in most everyone's hands. Sony essentially combined some of the best features of the previous-generation PlayStation controllers and then added...

    Konami's Biggest Game Franchises
    by Major 0

In a time long ago, Konami used to make some rather amazing video games. The Japan-based studio was founded back in 1969 as a jukebox rental and repair business. The company slowly entered into the creation and distribution of video games in the late 70s. A lot of Konami's earliest releases were done through arcades, but once home gaming consoles started to arrive, they made the jump in force.

Konami started out with a bang on systems such as the MSX, PC, NES, and more. They...
