  • The Alien: Isolation Devs Possibly Working on Hero Shooter with Cosmetic Microtransactions

    Game over, man! Game over!

Creative Assembly, the studio behind Alien: Isolation and the Total War games, is busy working on a new IP. It's being reported that their new IP is, drumroll please, a sci-fi FPS with heroes and cosmetic microtransactions. If that sounds familiar to you, you probably played Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Battleborn, LawBreakers, Monday Night Combat, Paladins, or many others in the genre. Heck, you can maybe even include Rainbow Six Siege in that category if you want to stretch the definition a bit.

And while Creative Assembly isn't working on...

U.S. Senator Proposes Bill to Ban Loot Boxes and Pay-to-Win Microtransactions

"Keep ur politics out of muh vidyagams!"

Representative Josh Hawley announced a new bill that aims to ban loot boxes and pay-to-win (P2W) microtransactions in games that are "played by minors." The senator understands that it's a broad label but clarified that this will include games designed for kids under 18 and games "whose developers knowingly allow minor players to engage in microtransactions."

Sure, that is still a fairly broad umbrella since there are just so many games that this would apply to. Which is actually kind of sad when...

This is Why Claptrap has a New Voice Actor in Borderlands 3

David Eddings says Gearbox just didn't want to pay him.

If you've seen any promotional material for Borderlands 3 in the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed that Claptrap sounds quite a bit different from what you're used to. This is because David Eddings, the voice behind the robot in all of the previous games has been replaced by Jim Foronda.

The reason? Money. Specifically, the claim from Eddings that Gearbox didn't want to pay Eddings for his work in Borderlands 3.

Yesterday on Twitter, a fan asked Eddings if he was still voicing Claptrap in Borderlands...

Devil May Cry 5 Has Microtransactions. So What?

Over the weekend, the Internet lost its collective mind, as it tends to do, over Bowsette Peachowser the revelation that Devil May Cry 5 will have microtransactions. These microtransactions will allow you to get a bunchy of Red Orbs, the series equivalent to experience orbs. The microtranactions are there as a way to fast-track your ability to unlock new moves in the game.

GameSpot first noticed the microtransactions during some hands on time with Devil May Cry 5 during the Tokyo Game Show. They asked the game's director Hideaki Itsuno what the deal was with them.

  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War to Finally Remove Microtransactions and Fix Final Chapter Grind Ten Months After Release

Before it was even released back on September 27, 2017, Middle-earth: Shadow of War was under fire for its rather extensive focus on purchasing chests, or loot crates, using real-world money. Players could "earn" rewards such as powerful AI fighters and other bonuses from these purchased chests. These powerful fighters were key to having a powerful defense in the Nemesis System, which tied directly into the game's online multiplayer. Because who doesn't like going up against a horde of powerful but purchased foes? Sure, players could earn many of these chests through gameplay, but they were usually a grind to earn the more worthwhile ones. Why grind when you could just pay some money ...

Bungie Outlines Its Plans for Major Destiny 2 Improvements

By the end of 2017, Destiny 2 found itself looking at a mixed bag of user reviews, despite the initial critical consensus being relatively strong. This gulf continues to grow between the critical response to Destiny 2 at launch and the current opinion of the fans. At release, things were relatively positive between everyone because the game was new and exciting. The possibility for the future was still wide open. As time wore on, the cracks began to become more and more apparent. The critics probably moved on from game and reviews were not updated to reflect this ever changing view of what is expected to be a long-term game experience. Fans, however, have stuck with the ga...

  • Microtransactions and Women Filled Loot Boxes Added to Modern Warfare Remastered

Yesterday, an update was released for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. It added in some returning multiplayer maps and new game modes like Gun Game and Hardpoint. That's great news!

The not so great news is that they added in microtransactions into the game, which had no microtransactions in the first place. Yes, they are cosmetic but the fact remains that they were added in after the game launched without any.

Secondly, they also added in female character models that you can play as! Oh but they locked them behind random loot box unlocks. So you can either randomly get one of the new female characters as an unlock or you can "craft" them from the currency you get from loot boxes.

    What the actual fuck?

    The full changelog is below.

Valve Adds Limited Use, Monetized Sprays to CS:GO

Valve has added sprays back into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. That's about where the good news ends. The bad news here is that they are now monetized and limited to 50 uses.

    What. The. Hell?!
It's time to make your mark with a wide range of graffiti patterns now available as drops and in graffiti boxes as offers. Graffiti can be applied to the in-game environment wherever you want, so use your imagination and decorate the world for yourself, your friends, and (when the opportunity presents itself) your enemies.

The CS:GO Graffiti FAQ explains how you can earn sprays, what types of sprays there are, and how many times you can use them.
