  • Konami Denies Statements from GameSpot that say MGS 5: The Phantom Pain Multiplayer is Locked Behind a Paywall

Yesterday, GameSpot put out an article that said Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain's forward operating base (FOB) multiplayer, was locked behind a paywall. Gamespot said that in order to even play FOB, players had to first purchase an in-game currency, MB Coins, using real world money.

Today, Konami issued a statement to PC Gamer that flat out said that was a complete load of BS.
"Gamespot posted an article following the review that the PVP (FOB) mode in MGSV TPP will be restricted behind a micro-transaction paywall and that is simply not true. The FOB mode will be fully accessible at launch and the micro-transaction layer to that specific feature in the game primarily acts as an accelerator. We’ll have more details at launch, but we did try and clear these rumours up when they started circulating during E3. We even addressed this in our official E3 2015 demo when it went live during that show."

GameSpot's Peter Brown has decided to sneer in Konami's general direction and has again insisted that FOB can only be accessed by spending real world money.

I guess we'll see who is right and who is full of crap in about a week's time.
