  • Microsoft Will Force Candy Crush Saga Installs on Windows 10 Owners

Microsoft was so damn close to having an amazing launch for Windows 10. Free upgrades to Windows 10 for existing Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 owners? Awesome! They were doing so many things right that you just had a feeling there was going to be a catch somewhere. This is that catch.

According to the latest posting on Xbox.com, Microsoft will automatically install Candy Crush Saga onto the machines of customers that upgrade to or download Windows 10 for unspecified periods of time following the launch of the game.

You read that correctly. Hell, I'll even quote it from the news update and provide a screenshot for proof.
If you’ve been paying attention to gaming (or pop culture in general) chances are pretty high that you've heard of King's smash mobile hit Candy Crush Saga. With its compelling blend of tricky puzzles coated in gorgeous eye candy, Candy Crush Saga is a global phenomenon for good reason. Windows Phone users have been enjoying Candy Crush Saga since its launch on the platform in December, and later this year, all Windows 10 owners will be able to experience the hit game that's swept the mobile world like wildfire. As an added bonus, Candy Crush Saga will automatically be installed for customers that upgrade to or download Windows 10 for periods of time following the game launch. It will even include cross-play options for your iOS and Android devices.

You know, most of us in the States already have to put up with this kind of unwanted, bloatware, "automatically installing after the fact" garbage from our phone carriers. How's about we don't have to deal with it on our desktop operating systems too?

This really annoys me, especially since I JUST dealt with this same thing on my phone. After I got my S6 I spent more time than I can remember disabling or removing bloat that both Samsung and Verizon put on there.

One of those things was Candy Crush Soda. Another one of those things I disabled was a program that allows the carrier to install apps whenever it pleases. It's called "DT Ignite" for those curious and wondering if they have it on their phone.

      It's probably small right?
So kind of like having Minesweeper on your system... just with insidious free to play hooks or something.

I'm more annoyed that if Gears of War via that rumored remaster and Killer Instinct both come to PC in the future, they will both be Windows 10 only, but we've talked before about how i think specific Windows exclusivity is fucking stupid.

Small or not isn't really the point when it's still bloatware that they're forcing to be installed after your operating system is already up and running. Minesweeper (along with Solitaire and other games) were removed as mandatory installs for Windows 8. They were optional offerings in the Windows Store that could be downloaded at any time at the user's discretion, not downloaded without input after you've already been using your machine for say, a week already. On top of that, Minesweeper is an official Microsoft offering. It's first party from Microsoft Studios. Candy Crush is fully third party.
