Microsoft Will Force Candy Crush Saga Installs on Windows 10 Owners

Microsoft was so damn close to having an amazing launch for Windows 10. Free upgrades to Windows 10 for existing Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 owners? Awesome! They were doing so many things right that you just had a feeling there was going to be a catch somewhere. This is that catch.

Perhaps feeling the heat of the Internet, King is now filing for express abandonment of its trademark on the word "Candy."

The Candy Crush Saga developer confirmed the move to Kotaku.
King has withdrawn its trademark application for Candy in the U.S., which we applied for in February 2013 before we acquired the early rights to Candy Crusher. Each market that King operates in is different with regard to IP. We feel that having the rights to Candy Crusher is the best option for protecting Candy Crush in the U.S. market. This does not affect our E.U. trademark for Candy and we continue to take all appropriate
