  • Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 Announced - $350, 1080p OLED, and Based Off of Crystal Cove

Oculus has just announced the release of the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2. This updated model is based off of the "Crystal Cove" internal design they've been working on for months.

While this isn't yet the consumer version, it is a lot closer to what the consumer version will be.

The updated model reportedly features a 1080p OLED screen and an external camera that works in conjunction with tracking LEDs to note head position. It will feature refresh rates of 75Hz, 72Hz, and 60Hz. It will weigh just 440 grams without the cable attached.

    The price? Just $350.

In fact, you can pre-order the Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2 right now if you so desire. Just keep in mind that this is not the final consumer product! There are undoubtedly going to be further improvements and enhancements made to the Oculus Rift prior to the first consumer release. There may even be a further price reduction when the consumer version hits. Anything is possible!

What the? Where the crap did those white tracking dots go? What is the camera supposed to be tracking then?! I can't believe this announcement just made my previous concern about Sony's version fly out the window since it's irrelevant now.
