I wonder if people just feel like the guards should react more and be diligent in their checking out noises? Hard to say.
Its not very shocking since I was a huge Thief fan.
I have to say that if you are a Thief fan as well, I dont think you will be disappointed in the game. I guess Eidos didnt pay off any reviewers because I found no game breaking bugs and everything is working well.
I have to say that reading comments you can tell who never played a Thief game before. I see comments like "This should be in 3rd person" and "This is just an Assassins Creed rip-off" as well as "Its really hard to kill people and stay quiet".
My very favorite though was from a review where they said something like; "The developers of Thief made it just about impossible on some missions to not be detected and having to resort in fighting." What that means is they couldn't be patient enough to figure out the opening and slip through.
One review said how Thief was too short and the campaign was just over 10 hours long. So I am playing on PC and I have finished the prologue, Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 and I am at 9 hours of playing. I believe there are 10 chapters. If I race through the Chapters, yeah, probably 10 hours or so, but there are a ton of side missions and jobs to take throughout the city. So add all that up and you will probably get 30 hours or so of play.
There are some bugs that I have seen, but they are not game breaking. Sometimes guards freeze instead of checking out noises and a reload will fix that, if you want to fix it. There was this one guard that started going in circles. That was funny, but also not a big deal.
The city is GINORMOUS!!! I am lost right now. Have no idea how I got to where I am at, but I needed to be there eventually, so OK. I think that is my biggest complaint that its so easy to get lost in the city and the map isn't that great.
Another minor complaint is I can tell it was made for console and ported to PC. Not a big deal. What isnt now adays, right?
Take that for what its worth, but I think you will enjoy it.
