As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

These Are the Top Steam Releases for January 2020

Plus a look at the top games of January 2010.

Valve is once again offering fans a look at the best new releases on Steam for the preceding month. That month is, you guessed it, the month of January 2020. Once again, Valve has limited the list of "top releases" for the month to those games that were actually released in January 2020.

Before we take a look at those games, Valve included a special bonus treat for us. The studio dove deep into their archives to show...

Official Half-Life: Alyx Release Date Announced

Valve has announced a solid release date.

Ever since Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx back in November 2019, they maintained that the game would be out at some point in March 2020. That fairly vague release window did not sway over the past four months now, which was either very reassuring that Valve Time wouldn't kick in, or anxiety inducing because you just wanted the delay announcement to come. OH GOD JUST GET IT OVER WITH ALREADY!

    Thankfully, that delay announcement...

Counter-Strike Broke Peak Player Records Twice this Weekend

CS:GO surges as DOTA 2 flounders.

This past weekend was a real banner couple of days for Counter-Strike players and fans. Not only did Counter-Strike: Global Offensive surpass its all-time concurrent player count, but it did so twice!

On Saturday, CS:GO had surpassed 888,000 people playing the game at once. This all-time high bested a near 7-year long record. The old all-time high came on August 21, 2012 when CS:GO had topped out at over 854,000 players.

More New Releases Found More Success on Steam in 2019 Compared to 2018

2019 was another big year for the PC platform.

Steam has been around for quite some time now. In fact, 2020 marks Steam's 17th anniversary come September. 17 years is a long time for anything. If you didn't know any better, you might be sitting there right now thinking that after all this time Steam could not be improved or iterated on in any capacity. At best, all that happened was that a bunch of new games were added and they called it a year. Right?

    That is where you...

  • No Foolin' - Valve Just Gave Every Steam User the Half-Life Collection for Free Until April 1

I used my best quip in the headline.

As part of the lead up to the release of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve just made every game within the Half-Life Complete collection available for free. This freebie is for every single Steam user, but there is a small catch.

The free period lasts from now through to April 1, 2020. That's still about two and a half months worth of play time that they're giving you, which is plenty of time to play Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode...

Rumor: Left 4 Dead VR is 'Real'

Take with a big grain of salt.

As far as rumors go, this one really isn't all that out of left field. Earlier today, Tyler McVicker of Valve News Network, suggested that a VR version of Left 4 Dead is real.

That's pretty much it. That's all he has to say on this particular matter: "Left 4 Dead is real." Oh, ok. Unsurprisingly, he dared not share anything additional to back up his claim.

Of course, saying that Left 4 Dead VR exists really isn't that...

In the Valley of Gods is Officially 'On Hold'

The latest from the Firewatch team is indefinitely postponed.

Way back in the year 2017, Firewatch developer Campo Santo announced a new titled called In the Valley of Gods. At the time, we never knew it but the first reveal of the game could also have been the last look we may ever get.

In the Valley of Gods was going to be a first-person adventure set in Egypt. Just about five months after the announcement, came word that Campo Santo was acquired by Valve. In the months...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
