Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).
Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.
Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

Over a decade later, the fan-favorite mode returns.
A mini-game that ended up being a surprise hit with Tekken fans, Tekken Ball, is coming back in Tekken 8. The game mode first appeared in 1998's Tekken 3. It returned only once more in 2012's Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the Wii U.
Tekken Ball is a game mode that is essentially volleyball with fighting moves. A player deals damage to their opponent by landing a ball on the opponent's side of the play area or hitting their...
Fortnite players are now able to submit for a refund due to unwanted in-game purchases that were made between January 2017 and September 2022. This is all due to the $245 million settlement between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Epic Games.
That settlement itself was part of a larger settlement from December 2022 between the FTC and Epic Games. It was that $520 million December 2022 settlement that found Epic Games...
"Going gold" announcements are kind of a nebulous thing in these digital days, but sometimes it's still nice to hear that a game is on track and ready for release. As such, Insomniac Games announced today that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has gone gold.
This means that the game is finished and ready to be released. This doesn't rule out a day one patch or anything of course.
The Switch version has also obviously been canceled.
Saber Interactive announced that Evil Dead: The Game is officially dead. The game will not receive any additional content and the planned Nintendo Switch version has also been canceled. Servers for the existing PlayStation, Xbox, and PC versions will remain active "for the foreseeable future."
Exact reasoning for this decision was not shared by Saber in their brief announcement on Twitter. It could be that...

Spencer says Nintendo's future "exists off of their own hardware."
More information has come from the leaked documents in the court battle between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft over the proposed purchase of Activision Blizzard. First was the mid-gen refresh for Series X|S, then came the leaked schedule for Bethesda's games, then we learned about the next-gen Xbox hardware. Now, we learn that head of Xbox Phil Spencer really, really wanted to purchase Nintendo....
As before, this information comes from documents released as part of the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) legal battle against Microsoft over the purchase of Activision...
Bethesda's Leaked Release Schedule Mentions New Doom, Dishonored 3, Oblivion Remaster, and More
Plus a Fallout 3 remaster, Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel, and new unnamed projects.
The mid-gen hardware refreshes for Xbox Series X and Series S weren't the only things leaked when Microsoft mistakenly put some of their own court documents online. The documents, published online accidentally as part of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) vs Microsoft over the planned purchase of Activision Blizzard, includes a timeline of planned Bethesda game releases.
Mid-Gen Xbox Series Refreshes Coming in 2024 Say Court Documents
This includes a digital-only Xbox Series X refresh.
If you were asleep last night or playing a game, as I was, you may have missed it when a waterfall of leaked court documents made their way online. Those court documents are from the ongoing court battle between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft about the latter's bid to acquire Activision Blizzard. There has been a lot leaked from these documents, so expect to read more as the day goes on.

I'm indifferent to the whole idea.

I think it's kind of dumb that people get to play earlier. Spending more shouldn't offer a "head start" on other paying customers.

Get that Premium Edition and play three days early!
Looks like the latest growing trend with game releases is to offer a more expensive Premium or Gold or whatever edition that grants you access to a game a few days ahead of its official release.
Starfield did it with their $99.99 (USD) Premium Edition. Today, Payday 3 is doing an "Early Access" release with their Silver and Gold editions. Diablo 4 did the same thing earlier in the year, as did Madden NFL 24,...
Those who bought the Silver or Gold editions of Payday 3 are able to start playing right now, a whole three days ahead of its "official" release on September 21. This Early Access release of Payday 3 does grant full access to the game ahead of the 21st. Meaning that if you and three buddies all bought the more expensive versions of the game, you could be heisting right this second.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Coming 2026 at Earliest but Not to PlayStation
The reveal comes from Microsoft themselves.
The Elder Scrolls 6 won't be coming any time soon, according to Microsoft's own documents. Not only the next Elder Scrolls title still several years away, it looks like it won't be headed to the PlayStation 5 (or whatever PlayStation is out at the time of release).
These new details come from Microsoft's own documents that were filed as part of the legal battle between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft concerning...
Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?
For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
