When Bethesda said they were going to show us the future of Starfield, they meant it. Today, Bethesda Game Studios shared a massive amount of new information regarding Starfield, from updates, to a new expansion, to the official PlayStation 5 release of the game. Everything new described here will release on April 7, 2026 for all platforms. April 7th is also obviously the release date of Starfield for PlayStation 5.
PlayStation 5 Release
On April 7, Starfield will be released on PlayStation 5. Of course, there are some PlayStation 5 specific features to mention here. The game will make use of the integrated DualSense lightbar, adaptive triggers, touchpad, and more. PlayStation 5 Pro owners will also benefit from two distinct modes: Performance Mode and Pro Visual Mode. Specific framerate targets for either mode and bespoke visual differences between the two modes were not yet specified.Starfield on PS5 will start at $49.99 for the base game. There is a $69.99 Premium Edition that includes the game, Terran Armada story DLC, Shattered Space story expansion, Creation Credits, a skin pack, digital artbook, and soundtrack. You can also get the upgrade to the Premium Edition at a later date for $24.99 if you already own the base game.
Free Lanes Update & Terran Armada Story DLC
Also on April 7th players will get access to both the Free Lanes update and Terran Armada story DLC. Free Lanes will be free to all owners of the game while Terran Armada will go for $9.99 or at no additional cost for Premium Edition owners.Terran Armada will take you on a new questline that spans the Settled Systems. You will meet and interact with new characters, locations, enemies, quests, systems, and rewards. Players will face off against the Terran Armada's robotic forces in this new story DLC.
Free Lanes will add "significant new features and systems designed to deepen the core Starfield experience for both new and returning players." Bethesda says that interplanetary travel within systems is now possible with this update. You can use cruise mode to travel from one planet to another within a star system. Along the way it's possible to experience hostile and friendly encounters. You can also get up and walk around the ship as it travels so you can interact with the crew during the voyage.
Additional features coming with the update include:
- New locations – A number of new Encounters, POIs, Dungeons, notable increase in variety for players to discover
- X-Tech – A new resource used to upgrade weapons, ship modules, and more
- Enemy modifiers – New enemy tiers with performance modifiers, such as extra shielding, more frequent attacks, or elemental damage
- Moon Jumper – New land vehicle
- Outpost improvements – Cross-outpost storage & Milliewhale pet
- New crew – Muria and the mini-bot
- Starborn Improvement – Ability to bring a limited number of items through the Unity to a NG+
Trackers Alliance
The Tracker Alliance, introduced into the game back in 2024, has just been expanded. Today, players now have more options to experience the Settled Systems as a bounty hunter. New adventures for the Trackers Alliance are available right now in Starfield.There are new targets to track and take down, new contracts, and new rewards. Those who purchased the original Trackers Alliance content will get these new adventures for free. New players are able to access the complete set for 700 Creation Credits.
