At long, long last, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will no longer be confined to the PlayStation 3. With last week's announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, Konami will finally get Metal Gear Solid 4 into the hands of a much larger audience.
Of course, Metal Gear Solid 4 won't be the only title contained within the "collection." It will be paired with one of my favorite Metal Gear titles, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The included version of Peace Walker will be the one from the HD Collection, which released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. The original release of Peace Walker came out in 2010 for the PlayStation Portable.
Also included in the collection will be the series spin-off title, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Ghost Babel initially came out in 2000 for the Game Boy Color. Though this game shares some elements with the PS1 version of Metal Gear Solid, Ghost Babel takes place in "an alternate continuity set seven years after the events of the original Metal Gear."
The bad news for fans here is word that Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid 4, will not be included in this collection. However, the Co-Ops for Peace Walker will be included! This will allow you and a friend to play through most of the game's missions together. There are also some missions, such as boss battles, where that limit is raised so that four players can team up for the fight. Peace Walker's Versus Ops will also return, allowing up to six players to duke it out in various competitive modes.
There are also several additional bonuses included in this collection, including the information packed Database that was originally included in Metal Gear Solid 4.
Those that pre-order and those that have save data from Master Collection Vol. 1 will also get several bonus items to use in Master Collection Vol. 2. Pre-orders are live right now, with the release date for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 set for August 27. Master Collection Vol. 2 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and Steam.
Pre-order bonuses for players that secure their copies early include the “Cardboard Camouflage” Uniform for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and the “Love Cardboard” Uniform for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Players who own their saved data of MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 1 will also earn in-game bonus items for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
