  • BioWare Confirms New Mass Effect Game Still in Development

Plus word about the Mass Effect TV adaptation.
The N7 logo from Mass Effect.

It's November 7th, but to Mass Effect fans it's time for the annual N7 Day. This year's N7 Day was a bit more on the subdued side with just a couple of announcements being made regarding the franchise.

First up, Mass Effect executive producer Mike Gamble stated quite clearly that "EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe." Gamble wanted to "set the record straight" after rumors started to surface that the new Mass Effect game was no longer in production.

These rumors were fueled by the fact that we really haven't had any new media released for the new Mass Effect since the announcement teaser at The Game Awards in 2020. There was one additional teaser shared in late 2023 by way of a new poster for the next Mass Effect, but again, very little else was shared. Then there were the several rounds of layoffs at various Electronic Arts owned studios, including within BioWare in January 2025. Finally, the in-process $55 billion sale of Electronic Arts to Saudi Arabia and other controversial investors has left many fans and employees fearing for the future of several notable EA franchises like Mass Effect.

Still, Gamble seems to be keeping a positive outlook on the future of the Mass Effect franchise.

We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out. We’re excited by what we’re building, and we promise you: when we’re ready, it’ll be a lot of fun to show. Until then, thank you for your patience because y’all are thirsty for news and I see you looking for secret meaning in my tweets (okay, sometimes they have secret meaning).
Secret meaning? Like the hidden message in the blog post that, when paired with a cipher from the Mass Effect Twitter (Nitter link) leads to this page about a Krogan Civil War? As you can see in the date stamped on the image, this artwork is new. When asked by a fan if this was referencing the prior Krogan conflict or a future one, Gamble flatly replied that it's a "future" one.

New information on the Mass Effect TV series was also shared today. The adaptation, currently being worked on for Amazon Prime Video, will be an original work. It will not retell the events of any of the Mass Effect games, but will instead tell an original story set after the events of Mass Effect 3. Which of Mass Effect 3's colorful endings the TV series will make canon is still up in the air.

The writers room is going strong, and we’ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game. The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?
