According to a report from Reuters, CD Projekt Red will begin production on the next entry in their Witcher franchise this year. CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Badowski told Reuters that he hopes to "have around 400 people working on the project by the middle of the year".

The new project, one that has been known as Project Polaris since 2022, will be an entirely new trilogy of titles in the Witcher franchise. Obviously, a release window for the first of these new Witcher titles was not provided by CD Projekt Red, but analysts are predicting it will be out some time in 2026 or 2027. It also is not clear if the next entry in the franchise will be called The Witcher 4 or something else given that it's going to be the start of a new trilogy of titles.

Badowski also shared that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, is currently in the conceptual phase. Badowski says that they hope to have about 80 people working on that project by the end of 2024.

CD Projekt Red's Michal Nowakowski added that they are considering including multi-player "elements" in the next Cyberpunk title, but did not elaborate. If you recall, Cyberpunk 2077 was set to include multiplayer that would be added in a post-release update for the game. With the studio having to instead focus on fixing bugs for the game, development on multiplayer took a backseat and was officially scrapped in late 2022.

As for not repeating the same mistakes made with Cyberpunk 2077's disaster of a launch?

Speaking about lessons learnt from Cyberpunk's release, Badowski said the company now had better control of the game production process.

"We believe that in the future we'll avoid a premiere like the one we faced with Cyberpunk 2077", Badowski said.
