More information on the places and people you will meet in Rebirth.

Square Enix didn't just release a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth today. They blasted the lid off the game with a big writeup showing off locations, characters, artwork, new abilities, and even a look at the many different pre-purchase bundle deals for Rebirth.

We get a look at areas such as Nibelheim, Junon, and a cruise ship. The characters include looks at Cait Sith, Yuffie, Elena, and more.

Combat

Two new characters are coming in Rebirth: Yuffie and Cait Sith. It isn't clear just who will be unlocked first during the game but they are both going to be new party additions.

Fans already got a little taste of Yuffie's gameplay with Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade. She's a character focused on speedy, flashy attacks with her big shuriken weapon. Her ATB meter also charges up faster than most other characters, allowing her to get more powerful attacks out more quickly. She can also infuse her throwing star with "magic-infused 'ninjustsu'." This same ninjutsu allows her to use spell attacks against enemies, exploiting whatever it is they are weak against. Yuffie is able to chain attacks together as well as change the elemental affinity of her attacks. She has a special Doppelganger ability that allows a "clone" to attack alongside her.

On the other side of the coin is Cait Sith, a cat riding atop a chubby mechanical moogle. Cait Sith can move about quickly, getting in quick attacks from all angles. When paired up with the moogle, the attacks are slower but far more powerful. When riding the moogle, Cait Sith can pull off a Dropkick on enemies. Once the Moogle Meter is filled, Caith Sith can buff his buddies with abilities like "Defense!" Outside of basic attacks, Cait Sith is able to apply debuffs to enemies and additional buffs to allies.

Synergy Abilities

Square Enix mentions that as characters fight together they can develop special synergy abilities. These abilities allow party members to team up and synchronize attacks.

The example provided is the Moogle Pinwheel synergy ability between Yuffie and Cait Sith. Exact details on this synergy weren't shared outside of how it would allow the two to attack "with a secret ninja technique."

Additional Characters and Locations

The Turks member, Elena, will make an appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. She is a rookie but is quite skilled with using guns as well as her fists if necessary. She, along with her partner Rude, are tasked with tracking down the mysterious black-robed figures.

Another character shown if Captain Titov. He is the captain of the Shinra-8, a cruise ship that travels between the locations of Junon and Costa del Sol. It seems as though Rebirth exchanges the cargo ship in OG Final Fantasy 7 for this cruise ship as a means of getting to Costa del Sol.

For now, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a PlayStation 5 exclusive until at least May 29, 2024. After that, it's anybody's guess as to where or when Rebirth will appear on other platforms. A PC release is almost a sure bet, but Xbox or even Switch? We'll just have to wait and see.
