The void to be partially filled by some bonus content.
New release date for Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Text: Destiny 2: The Final Shape - 06.04.24

Confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg, Bungie has officially announced a delay for Destiny 2: The Final Shape. The Final Shape is the next full expansion for Destiny 2 and would serve as the final main chapter for The Light and Darkness Saga that began with the first Destiny.

Instead of releasing on February 27, 2024, Destiny 2: The Final Shape will now be released on June 4, 2024. The Final Shape was originally set to launch at the conclusion of Season of the Wish, which itself is set to begin tomorrow, November 28th. Bungie says that Season of the Wish will begin on November 28th as planned, but it will now be extended until the launch of The Final Shape in June.

This news certainly isn't great for players that already found themselves becoming bored in the back half of each normal season. Fortunately, starting in February Bungie will try to keep Destiny 2 alive in the extended Season of the Wish by introducing new weekly content. The weekly content will arrive in the form of new progression-based quests called Wishes. Details on what the "Wishes" content were not shared by Bungie. If the Wishes turn out to be a flop, there will also be a new Moments of Triumph kicking off during this extended period, which will feature "unique rewards" that you can earn.

Bungie is also moving the Guardian Games up to March "with a refreshed focus on class vs. class competition."

In April, Bungie will kick off a two-month content update called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will serve as a build-up for the story in The Final Shape.

Bungie also says that they are still working on new PvP content. The PvP team at Bungie, at least those not working on Marathon, are working to release three new Destiny 2 PvP maps in May.

More details on what's in store for Destiny 2 in 2024 will be shared in April. Bungie says that they will share all-new gameplay that will shine a light on "the significant content additions currently in development."
