The need for upscaling is becoming the norm for PC releases.
Remedy Entertainment released the PC system requirements for Alan Wake 2 via Twitter. Like several games released this year, Alan Wake 2 will also need some beefy hardware to even run the game on Low settings, 1080p resolution, and a whopping 30FPS. Hold onto your butts, because we're again looking at a game that is sure to receive several complaints about not being optimized.
At a bare minimum, you will need an RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600 GPU, an Intel i5-7600K "or AMD equivalent", along with 16GB of RAM, and 90GB of free space on an SSD. The requirements also necessitate the use of Nvidia's DLSS or AMD's FSR2 upscaling technologies across all recommendations. Even on those bare minimum requirements, Remedy says you will need to run DLSS or FSR2 on Quality to get those sick 1080p, 30FPS visuals.
On the upper end, you will need at least an RTX 3070 to run with low ray tracing. Even then, this is for just 1080p and 30FPS gameplay.
Ouch.
Alan Wake 2 will be out on October 27, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The PC release is exclusive to the Epic Games Store. A Steam release in the far future seems unlikely at present given that Alan Wake 2 is being published by Epic Games.

#1cikame commented10-21-2023, 06:06 AMEditing a commentI remember when Quantum Break came out nothing else was challenging my PC at the time but i had to use whatever their upscaling option was called otherwise the game was unplayable, by the time i played Control i had a new rig that handled it fine but i guess Alan Wake 2 is pushing it again.

#2K-16 commented10-22-2023, 07:13 AMEditing a commentHmm... I guess some of us will have to turn to the PS5 version then (like myself). Then again, I have two reasons why I will have to turn down the PC version, but that's not relevant to this discussion.

#3azalea commented10-22-2023, 10:35 AMEditing a commentPS5 already uses upscaling so often, especially in higher fps modes. Mine is for exclusives or those games I get through PS Plus Extra; wouldn't consider multiplatform on it though that's only because my 2080Ti is still fine (in a it'll just about do sense).

by Shawn ZipaySo pretty.
Nvidia dropped a news update today that shines a light on the truckload of upcoming games that will have ray tracing, path tracing, DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, dynamic multi-frame generation, or support for some combination of all of those features.
This news from Nvidia offers up some of the first looks of these new technologies running in these titles. For instance, we get a nice showing of path tracing for IO Interactive's 007 First Light and Remedy Entertainment's...-

by Shawn ZipayEasily, the best horror game in years.
In 2010 Remedy Entertainment released Alan Wake, a game where a writer is pulled into a horrifying world seemingly of his own creation. Alan Wake was a game that I bounced off at least two times. Despite the game being well received by critics and fans, I felt like its gameplay was just a repetitive slog that even its unique story could not overcome. When a sequel was announced by Remedy, I found myself extremely indifferent to the news. Still...-

by Shawn ZipayThe new Nvidia 50 Series has officially launched.
The Nvidia RTX 50 Series is here with today's launch of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080. Naturally, the cards all seem to be sold out already across online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores. This was probably expected because it basically happens every single time. You could always just hit up sites like eBay where you'll see either scalpers attempting to sell the card at a hefty premium, or you'll find people selling...-
