The Nvidia RTX 50 Series is here with today's launch of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080. Naturally, the cards all seem to be sold out already across online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores. This was probably expected because it basically happens every single time. You could always just hit up sites like eBay where you'll see either scalpers attempting to sell the card at a hefty premium, or you'll find people selling photos of a new GPU in order to bait the scalpers and bots.
There are already a ton of reviews out for both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 that you can take a look at.
Along with today's launch of the Nvidia RTX 50 Series, the company released a new GeForce Game ready Driver, a new Studio driver, and a major Nvidia app update.
The launch of the 50 Series also means that DLSS 4 is officially available. This updated version of DLSS now uses something called the "transformer" model to handle technologies such as DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA. From the comparisons I've seen from users who have tested and compared this new transformer model to the old one, the image quality at identical settings is vastly improved in DLSS 4. This does come at a very slight decrease in performance, especially on older generation RTX cards.
Also new today is an upgrade to DLSS Frame Generation AI, which promises to increase performance while reducing VRAM use on the RTX 50 Series and RTX 40 Series cards. DLSS Multi Frame Generation will now also generate up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame. Used with DLSS, Nvidia claims that this could multiply frame rates by up to 8X over traditional brute-force rendering." They claim that this improvement "unlocks stunning 4K 240 FPS fully ray-traced gaming on GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards."
DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation is apparently available in over 75 games and apps, with more coming soon. A snapshot of some of those supported titles are below:
- Alan Wake 2: Remedy Entertainment’s critically acclaimed Alan Wake 2 is one of the best-looking and most immersive games released to date. Today, GeForce RTX gamers can experience Alan Wake 2, published by Epic Games, with additional visual refinements, higher levels of detail, new DLSS 4 AI models, and even faster performance thanks to DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation. It also introduces the first ever integration of NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry, and adds an Ultra quality ray tracing preset.
- Cyberpunk 2077: CD PROJEKT RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most technologically advanced games available. It already features full ray tracing to render the rich open world of Night City in even greater detail, and today PC players can download a new Cyberpunk 2077 update that upgrades the game’s DLSS implementation to DLSS 4. DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation works with DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Ray Reconstruction to multiply performance on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs by 9.2X on average at 4K, with the fully ray-traced RT Overdrive Mode enabled, and all settings maxed out. Additionally, DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Ray Reconstruction are upgraded for all GeForce RTX owners.
- Hogwarts Legacy: A new Hogwarts Legacy update is available to download now, upgrading the PC edition’s ray-traced effects, and adding our full suite of DLSS 4 technologies to the critically acclaimed, best-selling open-world action-RPG, set in the 1800s in and around the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. DLSS Multi Frame Generation, with DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Ray Reconstruction, multiplies frame rates on GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards by 4X on average, compared to traditional brute-force rendering. DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA are enhanced through the update to our new transformer-based AI model, and DLSS Ray Reconstruction is introduced. Download the update starting at 10 am PT today to instantly enhance your wizarding!
- Star Wars™ Outlaws™: With the release of a new update that’s coming soon, Star Wars™ Outlaws gets even better on all GeForce RTX PCs with the addition of DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, an upgraded DLSS Frame Generation model for improved performance and reduced VRAM usage, and the new DLSS transformer AI model for DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA.
