A new trailer for Baldur's Gate 3 shown during PlayStation's State of Play revealed the release date and gave us a taste of J.K. Simmons. Simmons voices General Ketherc Thorm, one of the game's main antagonists.

General Thorm is "a seemingly invincible necromancer" who is "leading an army of the dead towards the eponymous city of Baldur's Gate." Before getting to today's main trailer, I'll include this behind the scenes video showing J.K. Simmons at work in the recording booth.


If we can get Simmons to voice more characters, that would be wonderful.

"Ketheric is a man with complex ambitions and motivations, so in searching for his voice, we knew we needed to work with a renowned character actor who could deliver the kind of nuanced performance we were looking for – so we decided to cast J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man). While we expected it, we were still amazed at how much his performance helped deepen the character. We’ll introduce you to two more antagonists over the coming months – keep an eye out," explained Larian creative director Swen Vincke in a post on the PlayStation Blog.
Today's reveal also shares that Baldur's Gate 3 will be available on August 31, 2023 for PlayStation 5, PC, and Mac. The new trailer also reveals split-screen co-op gameplay plus a look at the game's controller support. From what I can gather, the split-screen will be for the PlayStation 5 version only, but controller support should be good to go on all platforms.

The PlayStation Blog shared a few additional details about the Deluxe Edition and Collector's Edition of Baldur's Gate 3. Developer Larian Studios say that all Early Access players on PC and anybody that purchases the game between now and release will get automatic upgrades to the Deluxe Edition of the game.
