This time, it's the total opposite of a delay.
A large, muscular zombie is jumping towards the camera ready to strike with his fist. Other zombies shamble around on what appears to be a boardwalk with shops and storefronts.

After being delayed several times already, one might expect that another news post about Dead Island 2's release date means yet another delay was announced. Thankfully, today's Dead Island 2 release date news is good! After slipping from a February 3, 2023 release to an April 28, 2023 release, it was announced today that Dead Island 2 will now be out on April 21, 2023!

It's not a whole heck of a lot of time, but moving that meandering date up by a week does feel pretty good after the game was pushed back so many times before.

Today's announcement of the earlier release date coincides with word that Dead Island 2 has gone gold. This means that the game is ready for mass reproduction onto retail discs. That's not to say there won't be some sort of a day one patch or anything, but it at least means that the game is "complete" and in a state where it works and can (presumably) be completed without any further updates.

Dead Island 2 was first announced roughly ten years ago. From all of the recent media, it's looking like it will be a fun zombie-slaying romp. We have just about two months to go now before we find out for sure. Dead Island 2 will be out on PC via the Epic Games Store on April 21. A Steam release might be coming much further down the road, but nothing has been announced. It's also coming on April 21st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
