According to "multiple sources" close to The Hollywood Reporter, Keanu Reeves has been brought on to voice Shadow the Hedgehog for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Reeves will be joining Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Ben Schwartz as Sonic.

This news comes following a presentation from Paramount at last week's CinemaCon. It was at CinemaCon where the studio debuted the first footage for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. During the showing, it is revealed that Dr. Robotnik was "depressed and out of shape after the events of Sonic 2." However, he "gets his groove back thanks to creating Shadow the Hedgehog."

Shadow the Hedgehog debuted in 2001's Sonic Adventure 2. From that point on, Shadow has appeared here and there throughout the Sonic franchise. Shadow even had his own game, the self-titled Shadow the Hedgehog that came out in 2005. Shadow is usually depicted with black and red fur. He often darts around the environment aided by his Air Shoes (not Heelys as originally thought). Shadow is often shown using guns to fight enemies and is seen as an antihero.

The first Sonic the Hedgehog film was out in 2020 and pulled in $319 million globally. The sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, pulled in $404 million globally at the box office. All three films are directed by Jeff Fowler and star Ben Schwartz, as the voice of Sonic, alongside James Marsden as regular, human guy, Tom Wachowski.

Keanu Reeves is known for such roles as Neo in the Matrix films, Ted "Theodore" Logan in the Bill and Ted films, John Wick in the John Wick films, and for his most notable role as Sage in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Reeves also portrayed Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 and the game's expansion, Phantom Liberty. Idris Elba, who voices Knuckles in the films, also starred in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be in theaters on December 20, 2024.
