  • Fans Believe Sony Teased the Next Uncharted Game in New Promo

Or it could be nothing at all.

If fan-theories are to believed, and why wouldn't you believe them, a new promotional video for PlayStation may have just teased the future of Uncharted.

Sony released a new commercial that talks up the end of the PlayStation 5 shortage. The video shows off characters and games we are all very familiar with already. There was Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon, God of War, and more. There were also a couple of quick glimpses at something that doesn't really line up well with any game or franchise we know about.

In a "blink and you'll miss it" segment, you are shown a clip of a woman carrying a torch through a cave or tomb. Another snippet shows the woman blowing dust off of some sort of artifact. While you might be saying, "Maybe it was a Tomb Raider reference?" It's possible, but it would be odd to include a third-party title amidst all of the first-party titles on display in the video. Furthermore, all of the characters in the video looked exactly as you know them and that woman looked nothing like Lara Croft. Yes, Destiny 2 is seen in the video as well, but Sony now owns Bungie so that technically fits the theme still.

The big fan theory here is that Sony snuck in a teaser for the next Uncharted game here, be it Uncharted 5 or something by another name. At the end of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, there was a brief segment where you could play as Cassie Drake, the daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher. In this segment, she discovers that her parents used to go on these grand adventures before finally settling down.

At the time, it sure seemed like this is where the future would be headed. Future Uncharted games would probably have you taking on the role of an older Cassie Drake, going off on her own adventures similar to what her parents used to get up to. Fans don't have much to go on here besides the fact that there is a bit of a resemblance between the woman in the video and Cassie Drake.

A small snag here is the fact that Naughty Dog's Neil Druckman said just last week that they have no plans for more (Uncharted) games. He flatly says, "We're done. We're moving on."

Sony may not be done with the franchise though. Several job postings went up in 2022 that seemed to indicate that Sony created a new internal team to work on a new entry in an already existing franchise. This new internal team would be collaborating with Naughty Dog on this new entry in an already existing franchise.

The full commercial can be viewed below.
