This weekend, two former Twitch employees came forward with information regarding the 2020 ban of Herschel "Guy" Beahm, better known by his online persona, Dr Disrespect. The sources claim that Beahm was banned from Twitch after he was found to be using Twitch's private messaging system to sext a minor and/or make plans to meet up with a minor at TwitchCon.
In the years following his Twitch ban, Beahm co-founded a game development studio, Midnight Society. The studio has been working on a "vertical extraction shooter" called Deadrop. The other studio leads were made aware of the allegations against Beahm and apparently launched their own investigation into the matter.
Following their investigation, Midnight Society stated that they have terminated their relationship with Beahm.
On Friday evening we became aware of an allegation against one of our co-founder’s Guy Beahm aka Dr Disrespect.
We assumed his innocence and began speaking with parties involved. And in order to maintain our principles and standards as a studio and individuals, we needed to act.
For this reason, we are terminating our relationship with Guy Beahm immediately.
While these facts are difficult to hear and even more difficult to accept, it is our duty to act with dignity on behalf of all individuals involved, especially the fifty-five developers and families we have employed along with our community of players.
