  • Dead Space Remake Can Run at 1440p at 60FPS on Consoles

A Quality mode will run at 4K and 30FPS with ray tracing.
Screenshot from the Dead Space remake. On the left stands a man in futuristic sci-fi armored space suit without a helmet. Next to him is a bald man. Both are facing the right, looking at a floating holographic interface.

The Dead Space Twitter shared the two different graphical modes that players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will get to choose from. Go for the eye candy and lower framerate, or go for slightly less eye candy at 60FPS. The choice is yours.

The developers at Motive and EA laid bare what sort of graphical settings you will get to choose from. You can choose the Quality mode and run Dead Space at 30FPS but at 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled. Alternatively, the Performance mode will run at 60FPS at 2K (1440p) resolution and no ray tracing.

It should probably be noted here that while not specified anywhere, these target framerates and resolutions are probably for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. I would expect that the Xbox Series S to, at the very least, run at lower resolutions when compared to the Series X. Other graphical settings may also be scaled back on the less powerful Xbox console.

On the PC side of things, the waters are a but more muddied. The only information provided about the PC release are the minimum specs and the recommended specs. There is no information provided about what resolution, framerate, or visual features are being targeted with these requirements. These PC requirements were shared already in October 2022. We will share them again below in case you missed them the first go around.

But first, let's take a look at the Dead Space launch trailer. Dead Space will be out on January 27, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

      by Shawn Zipay
      So pretty.

Nvidia dropped a news update today that shines a light on the truckload of upcoming games that will have ray tracing, path tracing, DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, dynamic multi-frame generation, or support for some combination of all of those features.

This news from Nvidia offers up some of the first looks of these new technologies running in these titles. For instance, we get a nice showing of path tracing for IO Interactive's 007 First Light and Remedy Entertainment's...

Cyberpunk 2077 - Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode Explained by Nvidia
      by Shawn Zipay
You'll be lucky to achieve even "cinematic" framerates with this.

CD Projekt Red has been working on an update for Cyberpunk 2077 that will add path tracing capabilities to the game on April 11. Path tracing is essentially "full" ray tracing. Current ray tracing use in most games is a drastically scaled back version of what full ray tracing is capable of.

Path tracing is typically reserved for static renders, or as part of film and TV visual effects...

Elden Ring Update Adds Extremely Subtle Ray Tracing to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series
      by Shawn Zipay
The latest patch adds in some graphical eye candy for those that can run it.

Ray tracing was said to be coming to Elden Ring prior to the game's release. It may be a year after Elden Ring was released, but the promised ray tracing is now here. The new v1.09 patch for Elden Ring adds in ray tracing options for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of the game. Obviously, there's not going to be any ray tracing features for those playing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One who downloaded...

Cyberpunk 2077's New, Extremely Taxing Ray Tracing Mode is Here
      by Shawn Zipay
A mode to bring even the top-end RTX 4090 to its knees.

Cyberpunk 2077 was updated today with a new and very, very demanding ray tracing option. Beyond the existing "Psycho" RT mode, players will now see an "Overdrive" mode that goes well above and beyond what you're used to seeing. This is the mode that utilizes path-tracing, which can otherwise be considered to be "full" ray tracing.

While Nvidia says that any GPU with hardware ray tracing...
