Respawn Entertainment announced that they are pulling the original Titanfall from being sold in stores starting today. Titanfall will also be pulled from any subscription services on March 1, 2022.

Titanfall was first released on March 11, 2014 for the Xbox One and PC. The game was a multiplayer only FPS title that combined futuristic ground warfare with Pilots that could call in pilotable mechs called Titans. While on the ground, Pilots had the ability to wall run and were focused on fast-paced action. Titans had unique designs and abilities.

The game was popular enough that it spawned a direct sequel, Titanfall 2, which added in one of the best single-player campaigns in existence. It also spawned a strategy game spinoff for mobile devices. Though not a sequel, the Respawn developed battle royale title Apex Legends is set in the same universe as Titanfall. It features characters, weapons, and story elements that tie in to Titanfall.

Over the past several months, Titanfall's servers have been hit by repeated DDoS attacks, making the game basically unplayable for large swaths of time. Fans and consumers have urged Respawn and EA to pull the broken game from being sold to prevent new players from basically wasting their money on a game they probably won't be able to play.

Today, the decision to pull the game finally happened. Respawn says that "Titanfall is core to Respawn's DNA and this incredible universe will continue." Titanfall 2 remains available for sale. However, many of the same server issues and DDoS attacks that plagued the first game have also periodically impacted Titanfall 2.
