A rumor about a new Dead Space game has been circulating for a little while now. A few outlets, including Eurogamer and Gematsu first reported on the existence of the game. We also reported on this back on June 21 after GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb hinted at the possibility. Following that, a new report came from GamesBeat just today that confirms, via their own sources, much of what the other sites reported on initially.

The short of it is that EA Motive is rebooting the franchise with a full remake of the original game.

Reportedly, the team at EA Motive has been taking a lot of notes from recent Capcom remakes, such as Resident Evil 2 Remake. So while the reboot will still use the original Dead Space as a foundation, you can probably expect the reboot to also include modern visuals and new gameplay mechanics.

The original Dead Space came out back in 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It spawned two mainline sequels, three spin-off titles, two films, and several comics and novels. There was even a nice, hardcover art book released back in 2013 that we reviewed called The Art of Dead Space. It's a franchise that has a huge following and having the series return, in any form, is probably what a lot of fans really want right now.

I can only hope that after they reboot Dead Space, they reboot another worthy franchise: Road Rash.
