During today's State of Play livestream for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Square Enix announced and showed off Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This is both an enhanced and expanded release of Final Fantasy VII Remake that hit the PlayStation 4 last year.
First up, let's tackle what's enhanced about this release compared to its predecessor.
It will feature improved textures, lighting, and background environments. Fans of high resolution door textures everywhere are probably cheering with joy right about now. Also included is a Graphics Mode that priorities 4K resolution and a Performance Mode that prioritizes 60 frames per second.
There is now also an included Photo Mode. There will be haptic feedback integration with the PS5's DualSense controller along with adaptive trigger use while on the bike. There is now a new difficulty setting called Classic Mode, but details are scarce on what that actually means right now. And finally, there are dramatically improved loading times for the game thanks to the power of the PS5's SSD.
Square Enix is providing owners of the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII remake a free update to the PlayStation 5 version of the game.
Additionally, Square Enix announced a brand-new episode featuring Yuffie as the main character.
In this new adventure, play as ninja Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates the shadowy Shinra Corporation to steal a powerful materia and restore glory to her homeland. Play alongside new characters and enjoy an expanded gameplay experience featuring multiple new combat and gameplay additions, bringing a new perspective to the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE story that cannot be missed.
According to this FAQ by Square Enix, the new episode with Yuffie is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version. So uh, get fucked PS4 owners, I guess. Not only that, but the PlayStation 5 release of Remake starts at $69.99 if purchasing for the first time.
