Indie developer, Ebb Software, announced that it's upcoming first-person horror title, Scorn, will be exclusive to the Xbox Series X. From the sounds of it, this is a timed exclusive so it's not quite as bad as it may otherwise be. Scorn was shown off earlier in the day on May 7 when Microsoft held the first of their Xbox 20/20 showcases.
A firm release date for Scorn wasn't yet announced. However, the studio says that the game will be released during the Xbox Series X launch window.
Ebb Software has apparently worked closely with Microsoft on this title. Scorn game director Ljubomir Peklar says that a big part of what helped them out was having a very capable piece of hardware to design their game for.
“For us as developers it's imperative to present Scorn in the best way possible. The distinctive art style is only half the story - the other half is having all the technical parts of the game running smoothly. That’s where our partnership with Microsoft and their next generation Xbox Series X console comes in. Xbox Series X is an extremely capable piece of hardware that will enable us to run Scorn at 4k 60fps with all the graphical bells and whistles. Ease of development and raw processing power are the primary reasons we chose to go exclusively with Xbox Series X. Players on Series X will experience an uncompromising version of Scorn.â€
There will be various puzzles to solve and a variety of locations to explore. There also seems to be some form of combat that can be enhanced with new skills, weapons, and items. Though Scorn is an Xbox Series X console exclusive, it does also seem to be headed to the PC via Steam and the Windows Store at some point.
To those who are wondering if they have somehow seen this game before: You probably have. Besides being listed on Steam for a while now, there was a playable alpha that came out back in 2017. However, it seems as though that early alpha demo no longer exists.
