As promised yesterday, Ubisoft did indeed reveal plenty of details for their next Assassin's Creed title today. It's called Assassin's Creed Valhalla and it is in development for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia. On the PC side of things, it will be sold exclusively through either Uplay and, you guessed it, the Epic Games Store. No matter where you decide to purchase it, Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be out "Holiday 2020" for those platforms.
As a little bonus for the Xbox crowd, Valhalla is confirmed to include Smart Delivery support. This is Microsoft's fancy term for cross-buy between Xbox generations that they announced as part of the Xbox Series X reveal from February. In short: If you buy Assassin's Creed Valhalla for the Xbox One, you will also get it on the Xbox Series X at no extra cost.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla looks to place a big emphasis on building up communities and settlements. Playing as Eivor, you will be able to construct, customize, and upgrade settlements in ninth-century England. These settlements can be fitted with new buildings such as blacksmiths, barracks for training, and even with tattoo parlors.
Eivor can either be a male or female, depending on your preference. Oddly enough, most of the media released today for Valhalla depicts Eivor as a male avatar. The only real good look at female Eivor we get is from the Collector's Edition, which we talk more about below.
Eivor is a "fierce Viking raider." They are trying to lead their clan to build a new home in England after fleeing from "norway's endless war and dwindling resources." Ironically, despite Eivor fleeing Norway because of all that war, you will have to raid, conquer, and fight throughout this new region. Oh Eivor, you just can't seem to catch a break!
In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, nearly every decision you make will have lasting effects throughout the world. Violence won’t be your only tactic for getting what you want; a silver tongue can be as effective as a steel sword when it comes to finding a home for your people. Shifting England’s balance of power and expanding your influence through diplomacy will likely make you more friends than brute force. Every political alliance you build, combat strategy you employ, and dialogue choice you make will alter your journey.
You wouldn’t be a Viking raider without raids, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla lets you lead surprise longship attacks to pillage enemy territories for much-needed resources, or launch massive assaults against rival Saxon strongholds. Raids will be more action-packed and brutal than anything Assassin’s Creed has seen before, thanks to a visceral new combat system that lets you bash, dismember, and decapitate your foes. Eivor will be able to dual-wield axes, swords, and even shields against the greatest variety of enemy types ever seen in Assassin’s Creed. And if you want to mix it up, the return of the Hidden Blade allows Eivor to assassinate targets with deadly precision.

You can see all of those purchasing options through the Ubisoft Store. Just keep in mind that the physical Collector's Edition will set you back $199.99 (USD). The game itself is priced at the typical $59.99. The Gold Edition is $99.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $119.99. I don't know about you, but $100 for the Gold Edition that comes with the Season Pass is a rather tall ask when we don't yet know what is even set to be included in the Season Pass. All editions look to come with a special pre-order bonus mission, The Way of the Berserker.
