Avengers... Maybe hold off on assembling just yet, yeah?
Marvel's Avengers - Iron Man

In a new post on their website, Crystal Dynamics announced today that Marvel's Avengers has been delayed until September 4, 2020. The development studio assures fans that it will be "worth the wait."

This new release date pushes the game back roughly four months from its planned May 15 launch. It has been delayed in order to provide "additional development time" that will focus "on fine tuning and polishing the game to (meet) the high standards our fans expect and deserve."

One has to wonder if the delay was made, at least in part, due to the fairly negative fan reaction after the first reveal. At best, it seems as though fans felt the faces looked a bit too "generic."

The announcement also notes that they will have some additional previews and media releases in the lead up to the new release date.

Sadly, Marvel's Avengers wasn't the only Square Enix published title to get pushed back today. We were given word earlier that Final Fantasy VII Remake was also delayed.

The full announcement about today's delay can be read below.

To our fans,

At Crystal Dynamics our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.

As fans ourselves, it’s an honor and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.

The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.
