Sega apparently announced tonight that they are re-releasing both Shenmue and Shenmue II for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC some time in 2018. People seem to be rather excited about this announcement. Also, the Steam Store listing for Shenmue I&II is already up.

Sega says that the Shenmue I&II re-release is the "definitive versions" of both games. They will include such modern features like scalable screen resolutions, choice of modern or classic control schemes, various graphical options on the PC version, updated user interface, and the option to play with either the original Japanese or English voice-overs. I believe the voice-over stuff was another big request among fans.

Shenmue I&II will be released both digitally and physically, at least for the console versions.

Hopefully this compilation comes out ahead of the planned 2018 release of Shenmue III. Players will get to see the origins of the story that began in 1999 on the Sega Dreamcast. Players will step into the shoes of Ryo Hazuki as he ventures out to look for sailors or whatever.
