Capcom has done what Capcom does best today. By that, I mean they announced a new version of their latest Street Fighter game. Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition was just announced today for the PC and PlayStation 4 and it is an "updated version" of the previous Street Fighter V.

The difference here is that all of the new content that will be included in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be released for free to those that own the current release of Street Fighter V. This release takes place on January 16, 2018. It will include the Arcade Mode, Extra Battle Mode, newe V-Trigger moves, Gallery, a new user interface, "and more."
In North America and Europe, the new version will be available physically and digitally on PlayStation 4 and as a digital download on Windows PC for $39.99 MSRP. For European pricing, please check with local retailers.

In addition to the Street Fighter V main game, the following content will be included in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition:
    • Arcade Mode
    • Extra Battle Mode
    • New V-trigger moves
    • Gallery
    • New User Interface
    • Season 1 DLC characters*
    • Season 2 DLC characters*
*Content not available for free to current Street Fighter V players, but can be accessed using earned Fight Money or purchased in-game currency. For purchasers of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, this content will be redeemable via a download code token.

In the upcoming Arcade Mode, players can reminisce in the Street Fighter series history as they celebrate the last 30 years of the multi-million selling franchise. Choose from six different paths and compete in matches against CPU opponents to reveal unique endings based on player performance. In Extra Battle Mode, a new series of time exclusive challenges will be available for players to use their Fight Money for the chance to receive an exclusive premium outfit each month. Complete all four challenges each month and receive a special premium costume exclusive to this mode. With extra challenges being added and more unannounced content on the way, Street Fighter V will continue to deliver new and refreshed content on a regular basis throughout 2018 and beyond. More details on the new modes and features, including the new User Interface, will be shared at a later date.

Until then, fans can continue to unlock characters from Season 2 of the "2017 Character Pass and DLC" content for Street Fighter V. These releases continue until the end of the year with at least one more character still to come plus new costumes.

Over a year and a half post release the game now has enough content to justify its price tag, the cost of DLC for original owners is still pretty high, but what i think this game needs more than anything is exciting new or returning characters, some new mechanics to shake up the gameplay, vastly improved loading times and the netcode to be improved tenfold.

So is Arcade Edition more of a GOTY re-release, rather than a "retail update"? And will owners of the original get this content at the same time as Arcade Edition's launch?
