The rumor about Microsoft working on updated Xbox One hardware continues to grow today with a new report from The Verge.

This all began last week when several people noticed new FCC filings from Microsoft that point to updated Xbox One hardware components. This includes a new wireless chip for the Xbox One. Other components are presumably under an NDA between Microsoft and the FCC. That particular NDA expires on June 25, just 12 days ahead of Microsoft's E3 conference. The above image of the prototype wireless component was leaked by the Brazilian equivalent of the FCC, which plays things a bit fast and loose with NDAs.

Sources close to The Verge say that Microsoft has been actively testing out new Xbox prototype devices. These sources say that some of the prototypes "have been tested with upgraded components you'd use to improve the performance of a PC gaming rig."

If true, it looks like both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will start a rather disturbing trend of iterative hardware updates during a console's lifetime, a move that will undoubtedly push away many consumers from wanting to become "early adopters" in the future.
