  • Street Fighter V Released

Capcom released Street Fighter V last night on the PC and PlayStation 4. The feature incomplete fighter includes old and new faces. Please note that if you're expecting to have a full story mode in this release, you will have to wait until March.
The initial Street Fighter V purchase will be the only one that consumers need to make to ensure they always have the most up to date version of the title. A cinematic story expansion will be released in June 2016 as a free update and over the course of 2016 (and beyond) further gameplay content, costumes, new challenges and balance system updates will continually be made available to all players. For the first time in Street Fighter history, all of the post launch gameplay content will be earnable completely free of charge through completing various in-game challenges and receiving earned in-game currency, called Fight Money. For those who just can’t wait to unlock each piece of new content, content can also be obtained instantly using purchased in-game currency, called Zenny.

The first of the 2016 content updates will come in March, when the in-game store opens and adds a new World Warrior to the roster – Alex. Players who have played through the majority of the single player content at launch will have earned enough in-game Fight Money to be able to add Alex to their Street Fighter V rosters for no additional cost.

I hope these in-game challenges aren't impossibly difficult to unlock all post-launch gameplay content. I will admit I did like Marvel Vs. Capcom 2's character skin unlocks. The longer you play, the more in-game points you get to buy unlocks.

Leaning into the absurdity seems like the right call.

A new trailer for the Street Fighter movie came out and it's full of familiar faces fighting in the streets, and several other places. The new trailer gives you a pretty general overview of what this movie is all about.

Paramount and Capcom seem to have leaned quite heavily into the over-the-top aspects of the games and other Street Fighter media. Fighters are busting out crazy moves and even slinging fireballs here...

Street Fighter's first ever guest character.
