Due to the ahem "outages" that happened around Christmas to the PlayStation Network, Sony is offering a few gifts as an apology. First up, if you had an active membership to PlayStation Plus or a free trial as of December 25, you will be given five extra days at no extra charge. Sony says that the extension will be automatically applied to your account, with more information coming soon on the PlayStation Blog about when it becomes available.
In addition to this, Sony will offer a 10% discount code that will be good for a one-time total cart purchase from the PlayStation Store. That discount will apply to anything you add to your cart, including games, movies, shows, and DLC. There will be more information on that later this month.

They don't owe you anything for the service being down. They never guaranteed that it would always be up and running. So anything is fine, I didn't expect it.
