Consumer Version of Oculus Rift May Enter Public Beta by Summer 2015

The upcoming virtual reality revolution is potentially rapidly approaching as Oculus VR is readying a public beta for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift for a Summer 2015. According to rumors gathered from Tech Radar, Oculus VR could release the public beta for the headset as early as April 2015.

The plan right now is apparently to begin a Google Glass style of rollout to gauge public interest in the device. According to statements made by Nate Mitchell, the Co-founder of Oculus VR, they hope to offer the consumer device for between $200 and $400 (USD).

Obviously, this news about the public beta is simply rumor at this point. Oculus VR has not come out and publicly announced any sort of a program just yet.

Oculus Rift S VR Headset Announced - More of a Lateral Move Than an Upgrade

Today at GDC, Facebook announced a new version of their Oculus Rift headset that they're simply calling the Oculus Rift S. They announced a $399 (USD) price point for the device that will start shipping later this Spring.

Get ready to spend some dosh if you want to be on the first wave of consumer VR products. Oculus CEO, Brendan Iribe, said on Wednesday that if you want to purchase the Oculus Rift and the computer to run it smoothly, it will run you about $1,500 (USD) in total.
