  • AMD Owners Get Shadowplay Alternative with Game DVR Beta

A new update was released for the AMD Gaming Evolved client that includes some great new functionality. First up is a redesigned UI, next is a new beta for Game DVR. This feature is similar to Nvidia's Shadowplay functionality that allows you to manually record gameplay footage with minimal impact. Or, you can instantly save the previous 10 minutes of gameplay if you missed something great by not manually recording.

From the Home tab in the client, simply click Record to activate Game DVR. With our Replay capability, we automatically record your last 15 seconds of gameplay time (by default -- you can bump that all the way up to 10 minutes), then save a clip when you hit Page Up + K. And with Record, you can start and stop gameplay capture at any time with Page Up + R. You can then use the Gallery to upload clips directly to Youtube.

These features are optimized for gamers with AMD Radeon graphics cards and APUs, utilizing AMD’s VCE block. Game DVR works with just about any game the client can detect, regardless of whether it has in-game support or not. Look for the DVR icon by games in your AMD Gaming Evolved Library.

Hm. Apparently this client is essentially just a Raptr client with a different name? Some are suggesting that this tech will be usable by both AMD and Nvidia card owners and may be rolled into the Raptr client a short time down the line.

It probably has a higher performance impact than nVidia's version seeing as how nVidia utilizes hardware to accomplish its task.
