AMD Issues Statement on Ryzen 7000 Burnout Issues

The issues may be tied to excess voltage from overclocking.

Some users on AMD's new AM5 platform have started to report that their new Ryzen processors have burnt out. Users across Reddit and other social media sites have shared their stories showing visible damage to both their Ryzen 7000 CPUs and to the motherboard socket. These issues have not been limited to any single motherboard vendor.

The burnout issue seems to be most common on AMD's Ryzen 7000X3D processors,...

How to Fix Both Nvidia's and AMD's Broken Driver Updates

Both companies just released new GPU drivers that could potentially harm your system.

This hasn't been a good week for those of you who use video cards from either Nvidia or AMD. Chances are, that's probably all of you reading this. Both companies released new video drivers that could possibly cause either increased sustained CPU usage after exiting a game or, in the case of AMD, destroying your Windows install.

Let's start with Nvidia's relatively minor issue first. If...

Intel Announces October Launch for 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs

The announcement comes just a day after AMD released their new processors.

During their Intel Vision Event, Intel announced that their 13th Gen "Raptor Lake" CPUs will be released starting on October 20, 2022. Much like 2021's Alder Lake (12th Gen), Raptor Lake will again utilize a blend of performance (P-Cores) and efficiency (E-Cores) cores. Raptor Lake will make use of the new Z790 chipset, but it seems as though those with Z690 boards will still be fine to upgrade....

AMD Announces FSR 2.1 with Fixes for Ghosting

FSR 2.1 is already implemented in Farming Simulator 2022.

Earlier this year, AMD announced the release of their upscaling technology FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2). This technology allows for PC users with either AMD or Nvidia GPUs to make use of the upscaling technology that promises to deliver better performance with minimal quality loss when compared to playing games at native resolutions.

As of today, AMD says that there are 45 games that either already have...

AMD to Reveal Future Ryzen CPUs on August 29

The next generation of computer processors from AMD to be fully revealed later this month.

If you are waiting for "the next big thing" in terms of computer hardware, you should probably stop doing that because you'll never upgrade. However, if you insist on waiting, you may want to hold off until August 29 to determine your near-future PC upgrades because AMD will have a big livestream to show off their Zen 4 CPUs.

AMD has been dishing out some details about...

First Games to Use AMD's FSR 2.0 Upscaling Announced

    Besides Deathloop.

In June 2021, AMD launched the 1.0 release of what they call FidelityFX Super Resolution. This was kind of AMD's answer to Nvidia's DLSS technology, except it did not require the use of special hardware and could be used by graphics cards dating back several generations. FSR allows users to upscale an image to provide them with better performance while still looking kind of good.

FSR 1.0 isn't perfect, nor does it do as good a job as DLSS, but it did...

New Graphics Cards Announced by AMD, Nvidia, and Intel at CES 2022

More hardware that will be in short supply that you will never get to buy.

CES 2022 is underway, though there really isn't much of an "in-person" presence this year. Even still, some new tech was announced on the first day that was worth sharing. AMD and Nvidia both announced new releases of their current lineup of Radeon and GeForce cards respectively. Intel announced its first generation of Arc series GPUs.

AMD Releases Fix for Windows 11 Bug that Impacted Ryzen Performance

This is just one part of the fix however.

Earlier this month, it became apparent that there were some issues with AMD Ryzen performance when using Windows 11. In fact, these issues were present since some of the earliest betas for Windows 11 but they largely went ignored until the operating system's first public release. Some testing showed that system performance could decrease by roughly 15% compared to the same hardware running on Windows 10. At the time, AMD and Microsoft said...

Windows 11 Causes AMD CPUs to Lose Performance

Fixes are in the works, but are not out yet.

If you are using an AMD based CPU and you plan on upgrading to Windows 11, you may want to hold off on that for a little while longer. Hell, I still say that you avoid Windows 11 regardless of your CPU for a good year or more if you can help it as it's just not in a good state right now.

But if you're moving forward with Windows 11 despite this warning, you should be aware that you may experience reduced system performance by...

Valve Teamed Up with AMD and Qualcomm to Create Faster Wi-Fi Technology

The new tech is called Wi-Fi Dual Station and it's been designed for gamers.

If you are at all serious about playing games competitively online, chances are you've been told that a wired Internet connection is the way to go. The main reason comes down to the increased latency and potential packet loss that comes with Wi-Fi connections. Now, thanks to the efforts of Valve, AMD, Qualcomm, and a few other companies, Wi-Fi might just be a very viable alternative.

    These companies...

Windows 11 Dated for October 5

    Yeah, it's coming in hot.

Microsoft announced that Windows 11 will be released on October 5. As expected, this new release will be available as a free upgrade for those who are using eligible Windows 10 PCs, or those that purchase new hardware with Windows 11 pre-installed. Though I suppose if you're buying new hardware, that doesn't make the Windows 11 upgrade "free" but I digress.

As with most updates from Microsoft, the free upgrade will be released in phases....

Prices Leak for AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT and RX 6600

More GPUs are coming that you probably won't be able to buy.

AMD is making another push with their 6xxx lineup of graphics cards in 2021. These will presumably begin to launch on or around August 11 and include the Radeon RX 6600 XT and RX 6600 GPUs. At least, that seems to be the ongoing rumor since AMD hasn't officially confirmed anything yet.

To add to the growing list of rumors today comes word about the potential pricing on these cards. An unnamed source on Neowi...

Capcom Finally Fixed the PC Performance of Resident Evil Village

And all it took was the game getting cracked.

An update for Resident Evil Village came out yesterday for the PC version of the game. The patch includes just two items listed in the changelog, but these two items offer big improvements for most everybody.

First up, Capcom has added in AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). This tech will allow you to push out some more performance from your aging hardware with a little hit to the image quality. We talked a lot about this...

AMD Launches FidelityFX Super Resolution Today for Everyone

Assuming "everyone" is playing these select titles on PC.

Just as they promised, AMD has launched their FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) feature today for both AMD and Nvidia GPUs. This technology is AMD's own spatial upscaling solution that is open-source and cross-platform. It is designed to boost framerates and allow for "high-quality, high-resolution gaming experiences" in titles that support it.

This can be viewed as AMD's response to Nvidia's...
