Activision Blizzard Lays Off Nearly 800 Employees Right After Announcing 'Record Year'

This evening, Activision Blizzard began to inform numerous employees that they will be let go from the company. The layoffs started shortly after the conclusion of an earnings call made this afternoon. The company says that they will be eliminating 8% of its total staff. As of 2018, Activision Blizzard employed around 9,600 people. If this figure holds up, that means at least 770 people are now out of work.

Those impacted by the layoffs are spread out across multiple Activision Blizzard departments. This includes Activision's publishing division, Blizzard, High Moon, and King....

Apex Legends Surpasses 25 Million Players

It was only four days ago now that we told you about how Apex Legends hit the 10 million player count. It was at that time that we also learned the game had over one million concurrent players, which is another huge milestone.

Today, EA and Respawn Entertainment announced that Apex Legends has surpasses 25 million players. Not only that, but Vince Zampella revealed that the game has "well over 2 million" concurrent players. This milestone has been achieved in just one week of the game being made available to the public from Respawn and EA. Respawn's Vince Zampella...

Battlefield 5 Adds Combined Arms Co-op, Balancing, and More in Tomorrow's Update

A patch that is tentatively slated to be released tomorrow, February 12, will add in some new content and features for Battlefield 5 players. Some of these new features include a four-player co-op game mode called Combined Arms. The update will also add in DLSS support and better RTX support for those using supported cards.

DLSS is a new technology that, in simple terms, makes the game look better and perform better through machine learning. It's mainly useful for resolutions at 4K or better and should, in theory, constantly result in better performance and near identical...

Battlefield V's Co-op "Combined Arms" Mode Coming After Launch

According to the multiplayer portion of the Battlefield V website, the co-op focused "Combined Arms" mode for the game will be released after the game's launch.

This mode joins the battle royale mode as being yet another piece of content that won't be ready for Battlefield V's launch on October 19. Hell, for a long time there, it was also rumored that the much discussed Grand Operations mode would also miss the October launch as well, but DICE was quick to squash that piece of misinformation.

You know, and maybe this is just crazy talk here, it is okay to delay the release of Battlefield V. Maybe give it some more...

  • Reports of "Weak" Battlefield 5 Pre-Orders Attributed to Lack of Informative Sources from Analyst

Just a week ago, a number of news stories popped up about weak pre-order sales figures for Battlefield V. We were also among the many outlets that put up at least one story about this. Many of us even went so far as to say that EA's decision to sandwich Battlefield V's release between the year's two most anticipated titles were not doing the game any favors. And while it's still probably true that the earlier lack of marketing and the release date aren't really doing Battlefield 5 any favors, it also might not be selling as badly as we thought. On August 14, an analyst at Cowen said that "pre-order sales of Battlefield V have been weak." What we didn't know at the time, is th...

  • Battlefield V Open Beta Begins September 4; New Ray Tracing Features Announced

The open beta for Battlefield V begins on September 4 for those that pre-order the game and on September 6 for everyone else. This open beta will be available to everyone on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

This beta will include the Rotterdam map on Conquest mode and the Arctic Fjord map on Conquest and Grand Operations. DICE and EA showed off some Rotterdam gameplay a few days ago. This is the same footage that they're showing off this week at Gamescom 2018.

In addition to this beta news, it was revealed today that Battlefield V will make use of Nvidia's RTX tech for real-time ray tracing.

  • New Battlefield 5 Trailer Features Fighting in Europe, a Song About a Brothel, and Battle Royale

The latest Battlefield V trailer features footage of intense fighting on the Western Front of WWII, while a cover of House of the Rising Sun plays. That is certainly an interesting choice for a song. I'll give them that at least.

Hey, whatever. It's a new trailer for Battlefield V and it's precisely the sort of thing that was needed.

This trailer is for Gamescom 2018, which is being held next week. The footage below includes a look at look at some previously unannounced maps, such as the "streets of Rotterdam" and the "burning sands of North Africa."

  • The Ghost of Titanfall 2 Haunts Battlefield 5 as Analyst States "Weak" Pre-order Figures

Less than a day after EA executive Patrick Soderlund announced his departure from the company, comes word that pre-order sales for Battlefield V are not doing all that well.

Analysts at Cowen say that "pre-order sales of Battlefield V have been weak." These thoughts from Cowen come courtesy of Sarah Needleman, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal.

Cowen feels as though the release date and a lack of marketing are really hurting Battlefield V. They say that "Battlefield could suffer the same fate as EA's 'Titanfall 2'."

As it stands, Battlefield V's release week is pinned smack dab between Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of...

Battlefield V Closed Alpha Begins Tonight

In about four hours from the time of this post, the closed alpha for Battlefield V will begin. The Battlefield website provides all of the details that players may want to know, including the system requirements, what maps are included, and more.

Invites for the alpha went out earlier today. Apparently, those who signed up for the Battlefield Insider newsletter however long ago had a chance to be invited. There are also some Twitter accounts that are currently giving away some keys for the alpha. Good luck with those.

I also hear that some streamers and YouTube personalities may have some keys to give out during the course of the alpha.

Here is a look at the content included with this alpha.
What Modes and Maps will the Closed Alpha Contain? If you get invit

Battlefield V Women "Controversy" - DICE Tells Butthurt Men to Shut Up

Ever since the Battlefield V reveal a couple of days ago, a bunch of men ignorant of a little thing called history decided to express their ignorance in the best way possible: On social media. They don't seem to realize that women have played important roles in most wars throughout history and World War II is no exception.

Thankfully, DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson knows his stuff and he's someone who stands by his game. Gabrielson took to Twitter today to essentially tell the ignorant masses to shut up and stop being stupid.
Naturally, those same people that were huffing and puffing...

Battlefield V Details Provided by EA

EA has finally sent out the press release detailing the new gameplay elements coming with Battlefield V. Let's see what they have to say about the game following the release of the game's reveal trailer just a short time ago today.
Battlefield V multiplayer will deliver the most immersive gameplay of the franchise in a sandbox environment that portrays the battles of World War 2, allowing players to feel the force of the fight and truly shape the war as the war shapes them. Battlefield V - Reveal Trailer, No Premium Pass, Releases October 19

Battlefield V just had its big reveal trailer after about 30 minutes of concept art and talking heads. The game will, as we already kind of knew, take place during WWII. There will be some expanded game modes and more character customizations.

It's also important to note that DICE and EA revealed that Battlefield V will NOT have a Premium Pass. All post-release maps will be free to everyone. They also said that all unlocks can be earned simply by playing the game.
