New 'Experimental' Splinter Cell Game Confirmed by Ubisoft CEO

Open World? GAAS? Mobile? VR?

The emotional rollercoaster that fans of the Splinter Cell series has been on for the past few years has been never ending, has had no chill, and frankly, it's gotten to be a wee bit tiresome. In May of this year, a new Splinter Cell was apparently "confirmed" and then it was later revealed to just be a joke.

Last month, we again heard a rumor that a new Splinter Cell was actually in the works. However, that story from July says that Facebook is financing the game and that it will be a VR only title and exclusive to the Oculus...

Mojang Cancels 'Super Duper Graphics Pack' for Minecraft

Performance issues and engine difficulties were too much to overcome.

Sadly, Mojang announced today that they are cancelling the promised Super Duper Graphics Pack that was originally revealed at E3 2017. This visual overhaul was teased for the game during the annual industry trade show and fans were eager to check it out for themselves.

This was going to be an optional piece of DLC that brought a suite of visual improvements to the Xbox One and PC versions of the game without needing to mod it. Sure, a lot of the visual improvements have been done time and time again...

Call of Duty 2020 Rumored to Be Black Ops Reboot

Next stop: Reboot City.

This year, Call of Duty fans are getting a reboot of the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title. Next year, fans may get a reboot of the Black Ops series. This is if the latest rumors are to be believed.

The 2020 Call of Duty will either be Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 or simply Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game will be set in the Cold War era and will also include the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

This all comes courtesy of YouTuber TheLongSensation via his Twitter account. While it may be easy to just write this off as some random person...

No Man's Sky Beyond Launch Trailer

Update arrives August 14.

A launch trailer for the massive Beyond update for No Man's Sky was released today by Hello Games. This update is said to be the "culmination of 12 months of work" on what was originally going to be three separate, large updates. Those three updates have been rolled into this massive update.

We already touched upon some of the new features and content coming to the game in our last post. The biggest addition, at least for PC and PlayStation VR owners, is the addition of full VR support for No Man's Sky. There are also some additional...

Solos Finally Coming to Apex Legends

But only for a limited time.

Apex Legends will finally allow introverts to play without worry starting on August 13. A Solos Mode will be introduced into the F2P battle royale game. So far, the game has only really allowed for three-man squads.

The addition of Solos Mode is the good news. The bad news is that this mode will only be added to the game for a limited time. This Solos Mode will run from August 13 through August 27 in Apex Legends. Best get your fill of it while you can, because who knows when or if it will come back afterwards. ...

  • A Look at the New Mercury Map Coming Thursday to Battlefield V

A Look at the New Mercury Map Coming Thursday to Battlefield V

The battle for Crete is about to begin.

A reveal trailer for the upcoming Mercury map was released a little bit ago today. This map is coming on May 30 for everybody that owns Battlefield V and will cost you nothing. It is, hopefully, the start of some fresh maps for the game which is in desperate need of new content.

This map will be the start of a few Mediterranean themed maps. This one in particular takes place during the real-life Operation Mercury along the Cretan coast. The next chapter starting in June, Chapter 4, will then add in the Marita map, presumably based...

  • Real Money 'Battlefield Currency' Finally Announced for Battlefield V; New Patch Arrives April 4

Two things were revealed by DICE and EA today for Battlefield V. First is the changelog for the soon to be released Battlefield V update. This is the second update for Chapter 3: Trial by Fire and, as you expect, includes a lot of changes for the Firestorm battle royale mode. Do note that the link I provided here to the update changelog is to a PDF.

With that out of the way, it's now time to talk about "Battlefield Currency." The community has already started to call them "Boins," so don't be surprised if you see that pop up more than once. This is a new...

  • Battlefield V 2019 Roadmap Reveals New Map Releases and New Theater of War

Battlefield V 2019 Roadmap Reveals New Map Releases and New Theater of War

DICE has finally provided the roadmap for Battlefield V through Fall 2019. Included in this roadmap are mentions of new maps, which look to begin in May, and a new theater of war. Given the name of the new theater, Awakening the Giant, slated for Fall 2019, is the upcoming theater of war.

Given the title of that new theater, I think it's safe to say that they're referencing the United States. This is based off of the famous quote from Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto in reference to the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan.

    If there's...

Battlefield 5 'Firestorm' Battle Royale Reveal Trailer and First Details

The upcoming battle royale mode for Battlefield 5 was finally revealed today thanks to an all-new trailer. The trailer doesn't show actual gameplay, but it does offer an "in-engine" look at some of the antics you and your crew will get up to.

I suppose I should preface this by saying Firestorm is the name of this new mode. It's slated to be added to Battlefield 5, free of charge to everyone that owns the game, on March 25.

Firestorm finds 64 players battling it out to be the last one standing in a match. The map size is said to be "ten times larger...

  • DICE Buffs Shotguns in March 5 Update for Battlefield 5

DICE Buffs Shotguns in March 5 Update for Battlefield 5

DICE has already provided the patch notes for the Battlefield V update that is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, March 5. This is "Update #4" for Battlefield V Tides of War Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes. Yeah, their naming conventions on these updates are a bit annoying, I agree.

Of the changes included in this update, we're going to see an overall buff to the shotguns in the game. DICE somehow came to the conclusion that they were now weaker than SMGs? I, uh, hm... well, that's one way to look at it. You can either read the changes via this PDF link from DICE...

  • Battlefield 5 Adds Combined Arms Co-op, Balancing, and More in Tomorrow's Update

A patch that is tentatively slated to be released tomorrow, February 12, will add in some new content and features for Battlefield 5 players. Some of these new features include a four-player co-op game mode called Combined Arms. The update will also add in DLSS support and better RTX support for those using supported cards.

DLSS is a new technology that, in simple terms, makes the game look better and perform better through machine learning. It's mainly useful for resolutions at 4K or better and should, in theory, constantly result in better performance and near identical...

  • EA Apparently Blames Weak Battlefield V Sales on Prioritizing Campaign Over Battle Royale

Just when you thought the general rabble about Battlefield V was finally quieting down, EA released their Q3 2019 financials to investors today. In doing so, EA's top brass say that Battlefield V sold roughly 1 million units below expectations because development prioritized a single player campaign over getting a battle royale mode ready for launch.

To its credit, Battlefield V still sold 7.3 million units across all platforms, but it's still considered underperforming according to EA's expectations. This disappointment was conveyed today by EA CEO Andrew Wilson.

  • Battlefield V's Latest Update Improves Panzerstorm Map, Reduces Footstep Sounds, and More

The second part of the "Lightning Strikes" update for Battlefield V has finally arrived. With it comes a bunch of much needed improvements to the Panzerstorm map alongside some new gear, gameplay tweaks, and more.

The first half of this Lightning Strikes update went live earlier this month. In that update, DICE upped the volume of footsteps to a very, very audible degree. Some may say that they increased it a bit too much. I am one such person. In fact, it seems as though most people thought that the footsteps of enemies were far too loud following that update, because DICE...

Massive Battlefield V Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes Update Coming January 15

The second chapter in the ongoing Battlefield V "Tides of War" evolving journey is finally here. Earlier today, DICE and EA rolled out the changelog for Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes and with it comes a few new pieces of content, some gameplay adjustments, and more.

Please note that this update will not be out until January 15 at 4AM (ET) for PC, 5AM for PlayStation 4, and 6AM for the Xbox One.

We're looking at three new weapons, two new tanks, the addition of Squad Conquest, and some changes for the pesky little thing called "death" in the...

Battlefield 5 is Now Available... Again

The release for Battlefield 5 is here!... Again!... For the fourth time!

It's November 20th which means it's time for Battlefield 5 Standard Edition to be released. This comes after the Deluxe Edition was released on November 15, which came after the Origin Access Premier release on November 9th, which came on the same day as the Origin Access and EA Access early release that allowed you to play for 10 hours.

Needlessly staggered release schedule aside, Battlefield 5 is now out for everyone to pick up and play provided you play on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC via Origin.

  • Battlefield V is Now the First Game to Support Ray Tracing

Battlefield V is Now the First Game to Support Ray Tracing

With today's update to the game, Battlefield V is now the first game out there to support DirectX's real-time ray tracing (DXR). If you own an Nvidia 20xx card, you may want to check it out for yourself. Or maybe don't, because the performance hit is, to put it mildly, massive.
So, what is ray tracing? Essentially, an algorithm traces the path of light from many different viewpoints and simulates the way it interacts with 3D objects in the scene. As the ray moves through the scene it accumulates color and light information along the way from all objects it encounters. These interactions are then combined to produce the final color of a pixel, that will be displayed on screen. Tracing from smooth surfaces like windows, ca
