IT'S HAPPENING! EVENTUALLY! ... Probably.

Fallout 5 has not been officially announced yet but that isn't stopping people from getting excited about the smallest hint of it. In a recent interview between Todd "Who's Laughing Now" Howard and the BBC, Bethesda's big cheese briefly mentioned the next game in the Fallout franchise. Very briefly.

The main focus of Howard's interview with the BBC was about the second season of Prime Video's Fallout series. During said interview, the BBC asked whether or not the Fallout TV show would have an impact on Fallout 5. Howard gave a brief reply to the question.

This is technically the second known mention of Fallout 5, with the first coming in an interview between IGN and Todd Howard that predates the release of Starfield by two years. I'm sure that was never really a question of "if," but always a question of "when" for a Fallout 5. It's still very much a question of "when" given that Bethesda is currently developing The Elder Scrolls 6. The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018 and we really haven't heard much about it since then.

Howard's latest statements suggest that Fallout 5 may take place either at the same time as the events of the television show or after. As the television show starts in 2296, this means that Fallout 5 could be set in 2300 or beyond. As is the case with The Elder Scrolls 6, none of what is being said today really matters. Fallout 5 is still probably upwards of a decade away, so plans will undoubtedly change.
