There was a major shakeup at the top of Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds. Parent company Krafton has put former Striking Distance Studio CEO, Steve Papoutsis, in as the new CEO of Unknown Worlds. The previous leadership team at Unknown Worlds - Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland, and Max McGuire - were all replaced "effective immediately" in a surprise announcement.
Exact reasons for this major shakeup were not disclosed by Krafton. Krafton says that they extend well wishes to Unknown Worlds' previous leadership team, while also suggesting that they would have preferred it if the three had stuck around for the continued development on Subnautica 2.
As part of its oversight, KRAFTON is committed to achieving regular milestones to assess progress across its creative studios. These reviews, based on clearly defined metrics and targets, will help ensure that games meet both creative and quality standards. This process is essential to delivering the right game at the right time. Unknown Worlds' new leadership fully supports this process and is committed to meeting player expectations.
