Bloomberg reports that Electronic Arts is laying off between 300 and 400 employees as well as canceling a Titanfall game that was in development at Respawn Entertainment.
The report from Bloomberg says that upwards of 400 positions were eliminated. This includes about 100 employees being laid off from Respawn. The Bloomberg report did not have information on which studios or divisions within Electronic Arts the remaining 200 to 300 employees were laid off from.
Electronic Arts issued a statement through spokesman Justin Higgs. The public statement reads as the bog standard corporate statement we've all seen time and time again when a development studio issues layoffs.
As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth.
Respawn took to social media to announce that they "made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments." The first of the two projects is the aforementioned R7 title. The other project that Respawn is talking about was an unknown title that was canceled earlier this year.
This is now the fifth time since March 2023 where Electronic Arts has laid off a large number of employees. They fired over 200 QA testers in March 2023. In that same month, they announced that they were laying off 6% of their total workforce. In February 2024, the studio laid off about 670 people and closed Ridgeline Games. In January 2025, BioWare was hit with layoffs.
