The severs have been hit hard all day.

Square Enix says that players wanting to login to Final Fantasy 14 may have difficulties doing so. Since around 6AM (PT) on the morning of May 6, the Final Fantasy 14 servers have been under a DDoS attack.

The latest server status update on the official Final Fantasy 14 site has not made any additional updates since this morning's notice about the DDoS attacks happening. That notice does say that the team is "investigating the attack and taking countermeasures." Looking at Downdetector, the situation does not seem to have improved much since the attacks began this morning.

Square Enix says that due to the DDoS attacks against the servers, players should expect to run into the following issues:
    • Disconnected from JP/NA/EU/OC data center Worlds
    • Difficulty logging in to JP/NA/EU/OC data center Worlds
    • Difficulty accessing, sending, and receiving data from JP/NA/EU/OC data centers
It would be wise to keep an eye on the Status update page for Final Fantasy 14 for any new developments.
