User-generated content and new collabs are also set to arrive later this year.

There are some very big changes in store for PUBG: Battlegrounds, the venerable battle royale title that first debuted in 2017. As one of the original battle royale titles to hit the market, the now free-to-play game still shows up every day in the top 10 most played games on Steam.

In 2024, PUBG is going to see some of its biggest changes ever. Developer Krafton says that the game will get destructible environments, will move to using Unreal Engine 5, will get user-generated content support, new collaborations, improvements to matchmaking, and better anti-cheat measures.

Krafton says that when it comes to destructible environments, players will be able to take out key parts of buildings to get the drop on enemy players. In addition, players will also be able to build up defensive barriers, though they did not share just how free the building options will be. A preview of this destruction and building will be offered in a preview update set for April.

Kraton also wants to ramp up updates related to gunplay. They hope to get updates out to weapon tuning or swapping in new weapons every two months. They say that the4y want to "provide a greater diversity of choices to players."

Items that "facilitate transportation and looting" will be added. Krafton is also looking to improve some game modes to offer a more casual gaming experience. As for the user-generated content aspect, Krafton says that they hope to "empower players to create and engage with their content and foster a vibrant, creator-driven ecosystem." That is to perhaps say, "hey, maybe we become a little bit like Fortnite."

Some other new improvements will focus on a "progressive skins" system for weapons. Krafton also hopes to both make matchmaking more balanced while also keeping wait times low. They will also update their map rotation system to take into account "regional map preferences." Bots will also be updated. Ranked rewards will be improved. All of that and more is planned for 2024.
