The Roost Podcast Network will continue on for now.

Rooster Teeth would have been celebrating its 21st birthday in just under a month. The company that brought us Red vs. Blue, Achievement Hunter, and numerous shows and films is officially being closed by Warner Bros. Discovery. The news broke earlier in the day on March 6, 2024.

Rooster Teeth began operations on April 1, 2003 by Burnie Burns, Matt Hullum, Geoff Ramsey, Jason Saldana, Gus Sorola, and Joel Heyman. Over the years, Rooster Teeth had a variety of owners including Fullscreen and Otter Media. They joined Warner Bros. Discovery after the acquisition of Time Warner from AT&T.

In addition to producing 18 seasons of Red vs. Blue, Rooster Teeth also produced animated shows like RWBY, Gen:Lock, and Camp Camp. They had a couple of feature length films including Lazer Team and its sequel. The company also had several smaller live-action productions within their network such as On the Spot, The Slow Mo Guys, Immersion, and Day 5.

Under the Rooster Teeth umbrella were several other long-running channels. These include Achievement Hunter, Inside Gaming, and Funhaus.

The news of Rooster Teeth's closure was broke to employees earlier today during an all-hands meeting and internal memo by general manager Jordan Levin. An excerpt from the memo is shared below, with a full text found at Deadline where the news initially broke.

Since inheriting ownership and control of Rooster Teeth from AT&T following its acquisition of TimeWarner, Warner Bros. Discovery continued its investment in our company, content and community. Now however, it’s with a heavy heart I announce that Rooster Teeth is shutting down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.
Levin says that Warner Bros. Discovery will continue The Roost Podcast Network. The Roost Network "will continue operating and fulfilling its obligations while WBD evaluates outside interest in acquiring this growing asset." It does not seem unreasonable to believe that if a buyer is not found for The Roost that it too will also be shuttered in the future. Some of the podcasts under The Roost include Face Jam, the Funhaus Podcast, the H3 Podcast, The Kinda Funny Podcast, and many others.

According to Deadline's reporting, a potential sale of Rooster Teeth ex explored at one point. However, "many of the companies that had been interested in the brand are no longer in business as the digital entertainment space has been undergoing an unprecedented upheaval."

The closure of Rooster Teeth is expected to be carried out over the course of several months. During this time, it is expected that the 19th season of Red vs. Blue will be released. This 19th season was announced in July 2023 during Rooster Teeth's annual convention, RTX. At the time, it was said that the 19th season would be its final season and it will be called "Restoration."
