Square Enix says that their 4v4 flashy and splashy party shooter Foamstars will be out on February 6, 2024. The game will be included in the monthly game lineup for PlayStation Plus subscribers for the entirety of February (up through March 4, 2024). This will give all PlayStation Plus subscribers, regardless of tier, the ability to redeem the game, download, and play at no additional cost. Of course, you will need to have an active PlayStation Plus subscription to keep playing Foamstars after that month.

If you opt not to pick the game up through a PlayStation Plus subscription, Foamstars will set you back $29.99 (USD) from the PlayStation Store. If you have not yet picked up on it yet, Foamstars is exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Square Enix already has a year's worth of post-launch content planned out. There will be free themed seasonal updates rolled out that include new experiences, new cosmetics, new playable characters, new maps, and game modes. Each season will naturally come with an optional Premium track with additional rewards, which is priced at $5.99. Those that buy the Premium track will get immediate access to the new Season Pass characters in addition to getting to earn those extra cosmetics.

Foamstars will launch with three PvP multiplayer modes: Smash the Star, Happy Bath Survival, and Rubber Duck Party. Each mode includes three maps that are built to emphasize each game mode's differences.

There will also be some solo and team based PvE content. There will be experiences where players protect Bath Vegas from waves of randomized encounters. Missions are how you will get to test out the different Foamstars characters and see what abilities each have in matches against AI.

Speaking of AI, it was also revealed today that Foamstars does utilize some AI content created by Midjourney. Midjourney being a popular AI tool that can turn text descriptions into digital images. Square Enix says that Midjourney was used to create some small art fir in-game icons. They also note that "all of the core elements in Foamstars" were "made by hand."
