The fan backlash was heard loud and clear.

Epic Games admits that their new system for Fortnite that age restricted a fair number of cosmetic items may have been a bit garbage in its implementation. Epic says that the way it was implemented "didn't hit the mark" and are now instead working on a newer, and hopefully better, system that they plan to introduce as part of an upcoming game update.

The system, as it was originally implemented just last week, applied an age rating to every island in Fortnite. This age rating was done in an effort to help keep young children away from gameplay experiences that they shouldn't be privy to.

Epic says that it restricted some cosmetics under the T (Teen) rating, meaning that they could not be used on islands deemed to be rated E for Everyone. Epic says that only about 7% of all of Fortnite's outfits were given this teen rating, but fans were still quite upset nonetheless. After all, it really does seem like some questionable decisions were made as to which cosmetics were restricted and which were not. For instance, a shirtless muscled cat was given a higher age rating than mass murderer Michael Myers.

On November 18, Fortnite sent out a social media post that say their "ratings update didn't hit the mark."

These undisclosed changes being made to the age restriction system are said to be coming alongside a new "big in-game event" and will start rolling out with the v28.00 update on December 3, 2023. That event hasn't been fully announced yet, but data leaks suggest that the Chapter 5 event is called "The Big Bang." Maybe the event is related to The Big Bang Theory and a laugh track will play even when nothing funny is happening.
