That's with upscaling enabled by default.

The PC requirements for the upcoming action-adventure Electronic Arts game Immortals of Aveum were shared today. Immortals of Aveum is an upcoming FPS that uses magic instead of bullets to take out enemies. This Unreal Engine 5 powered title is being developed by Ascendant Studios and published under the EA Originals name.

Now, those system requirements alluded to prior? Well, they're quite steep. They're steep even by steep standards. They're so steep that the shared system requirements are all including upscaling set to "Quality" as a default. So, let's take a look at what hardware you'll need to play the game at various settings.

Chart showing PC hardware needed to play a game on different quality settings, framerates, and resolutions.

According to this chart, if you want to run the game at 1440p (with upscaling) and 60FPS, you're going to need either an AMD RX 6800XT or an RTX 3080 Ti. These are GPUs that still retail for anywhere from about $600 (USD) to over $1,100. So, maybe a grand for a GPU that only hits the "medium" tier in the above chart. Then you have to factor in the CPU and other necessary hardware and, well, it gets to be quite expensive.

Immortals of Aveum is making use of all that new Unreal Engine 5 tech like Lumen and Nanite, but on the other hand here: What?!

The devs do at least concede that they "intend to announce new low end specs soon" that will target a 1080p/30FPS experience. They say that they currently have the game running "well" in the 40FPS range on an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 and Intel Core i7-8700K. They did not say whether or not that 1080p/30FPS experience is also with upscaling being utilized.

Speaking of upscaling, Immortals of Aveum will launch with both AMD FSR 2.2 and Nvidia's DLSS3. So there are at least a couple of options available if you find that your hardware just isn't up to the task. It will be very interesting to see what I'm going to get with a GTX 1080 Ti and Ryzen 9 5900X, if I can even get the game to run at all.

Ascendant Studios will also include what looks to be a useful performance tool in Immortals of Aveum. This tool will assign numerical values to your GPU and CPU. If you change settings, you can fine-tune a graphical experience that "fits" within the limits that tool assigned your hardware. A video of that tool can be seen below.

It will be interesting to see how this one shakes out and whether or not Immortals of Aveum is the new Crysis, if it's a case of poor optimization, or if the hardware requirements are just playing is super safe. It's also going to be very interesting to see how this game performs on the Xbox Series S.

Immortals of Aveum is out August 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
