On July 29, 2024, the browser-based and console-based versions of the Xbox 360 Store will cease operations. This announcement was made via the Xbox Wire news portal.

This means that after July 29th, you will no longer be able to purchase games, DLC, or any other form of entertainment from the Xbox 360 Store. This date also marks the shutdown of the Microsoft Movies & TV app for the Xbox 360, rendering it impossible to watch TV and movie content after that date.

The good news here is that any games and DLC you purchase before July 29, 2024 will continue to work on your Xbox 360. This also means that you will still be able to download and play these games through backwards compatibility on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (if backwards compatible).

Online multiplayer for these games will continue to function after July 29, 2024 but only if the online servers are still supported by the game's developers or publishers.

This move may mean that some Xbox 360 games will no longer be able to be purchased anywhere after July 29, 2024. It's certainly a huge blow for those into game preservation. This move by Microsoft also follows a similar move by Nintendo, who closed their Wii U and 3DS eShops back in March. In 2021, Sony tried to shut down the PlayStation 3, Vita, and PlayStation Portable stores. Though the PSP store was closed as planned, the PS3 and Vita stores remained open following a bunch of fan backlash to the initial announcement.
