The hero-based shooter arrives in August.

Well this is certainly an interesting little twist. A Steam page for Blizzard's Overwatch 2 was just put up. The planned release date listed on the Steam Overwatch 2 page is August 10, 2023 even though it has been available on Battle.net and consoles since at least October 4, 2022. The August 10th release date on Steam is the same day that its next season, Season 6: Invasion, is slated to begin.

The Steam release of Overwatch 2 will still require that you have a Battle.net account in order to play. However, the game itself will still be fully integrated into Steam and include features such as achievements, access to Steam friends lists, and Steam game invites.

Season 6: Invasion is when the game is getting its first round of PvE story missions. As of right now, the plan is to release this first pack of PvE missions for an extra $15 (USD). The base game should be free-to-play, but do keep in mind that there are several optional microtransactions within the game itself.

According to a blog post, Blizzard seems to be at least cautiously interested in bringing even more of their titles to Steam. Is it possible that we will soon see the newly released Diablo 4 on Steam? The previous Diablo games as well? World of Warcraft, the other Warcraft titles, or even StarCraft? That's a whole lot of maybe right now!

As far as what’s next for Blizzard on Steam, we’ll be sharing more about potential other games coming to the platform when the time is right.
