Blizzard talks about the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass, the scoreboard system, and even the roadmap of future content for Season 1, Season 2, and into 2023. This news all comes courtesy of a new PlayStation Blog entry from Blizzard.

Before getting into the planned content, let's just take a moment to remind you that there will be an Overwatch 2 beta happening June 28. By the way, registrations for that beta are now open. The game itself will be out on October 4th as a free-to-play game on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It will obviously be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as well.

With this move to a free-to-play model, Overwatch 2 will introduce a new Battle Pass system. You'll be able to unlock themed cosmetic items and complete weekly challenges for unique rewards. Blizzard says that this will be an alternative to "Loot Box luck" in that you can "choose how you want to invest and progress toward new content throughout the season."

Overwatch 2 looks like it will include some slightly retooled versions of old maps set in locations like Toronto, New York, Rome, and Monte Carlo. There will also be two new maps at release. The new maps are set in Rio and Portugal.

This release will feature "reworked competitive play." An updated scoreboard will provide players with some additional information during and after matches. Skill ratings will update after seven wins instead of after every game. Skill ratings will now also be ranked from highest to lowest instead of having a numerical value.

As for that future roadmap, get ready for a bunch of new content. Blizzard included information for Season 1, Season 2, and through 2023. Season 1 for Overwatch 2 begins on the day of release on October 4.

It's interesting to note here that the PvE content for Overwatch 2, kind of the reason they even decided to make a sequel, won't be out until 2023.
